Got the tool today. It is just as you described with the storage in the handle. The guy at the part store first said to yank off the Quadrajet and replace it with a Holley. I don't think so. His next comment was "I haven't sold one of those in over 10 years!"

Thanks alot! I didn't know such a tool existed. The previous carbs I worked on had a regular flat-head screwdriver adjustment.

Idle adjustment on Quadrajet

This may seem like an odd question - what do you guys use to turn the idle adjustment screws on a Quadrajet? I was trying to get it set right this weekend and I was getting frustrated trying to make minor adjustments. The head of the screw is this strange flat thing - no standard tool I am aware wil...

In my setup, the starboard engine can draw from the starboard tank or the rear tank while the port engine can draw from the port tank or the rear tank. So if you want the starboard engine to draw from the starboard tank you would turn on the valve from the starboard tank (valve lever in-line with th...

You may be right about the rear vents - I just don't remember seeing how air gets from the vents, through the rear bulkhead behind the engines, and into the engine compartment. I will look again next time I am out. I have only had mine a few months and have not had it out in truly bad water yet, so ...

My wife and I did it just the same. Researched for months and months until we determined exactly what we wanted. From my research it seemed that Tiara was well made. I didn't really look at Formula. And of course we ended up with a Trojan. Whatever you choose, make sure you get a survey done. Even t...

I have a 12M aft cabin but I don't think I am the right person to answer your question since I am a lake boater. But I will try anyways. Maybe another 12M aft cabin owner can chime in on this? I have previously avoided these discussions because I am one of those with strong opinions but I am not int...

I agree with rossjo. I never hooked dock water to my previous 33' or my Trojan. I get chills thinking of all of the things that could go wrong... I just use the water in the tank and refill when it gets close to empty.

A different Nav Light question

My light configuration is as follows: I have a red/green in front, a 225 mast-head in front of the helm, a combo mast-head/all-round above the radar arch, and a stern light. When I turn on nav lights, everything turns on except the combo above the radar arch - it stays dark. When I switch to anchor ...

Thanks everyone for all your help. I am at the boat and here is the latest. Choke appears to be fine - carb is a quadrajet. I started pulling plugs down the inboard side of the engine. 1,3, and 5 look good - minor carbon fouling. But 7 is badly gas fouled. So this should isolate the problem to wires...

Be careful - my Qjet rebuild kit from NAPA last year was NOT Viton. I had to special order (http://www.cliffshighperformance.com) the Viton seals and Accel pump. NAPA has a lot of old stock, and I'm sure the others do as well. I would not count on the counter guy at the Auto (not Marine) parts stor...

Doubt its a Qjet (could be though) - probably a Carter AFB ... what year? Unless you've rebuilt your carb with Viton float needle seals, they will deteriorate with the ethanol. Not sure how long, but it will happen. I just put a new set of Viton seals in my Qjet - and it runs good now - we'll see i...

most likely a Q-jet, but start with the simple things first. I agree with starting with the simple stuff, I am simply coming up with a checklist. After crawling around in an engine compartment for hours and bruising a few knuckles, my mood will start to deteriorate (along with my vocabulary) and I ...

After you mentioned the fuel pump I thought of something else - float/needle-valve. It's been a while since I pulled apart a carburator and this one will be a pain to work on due to location - may have to pull it off.

Do you guys know which carb Crusader used I haven't checked. Is it a Quadrajet?
