Re: New pics
Hey, that's my hand. These are the 90 degree exhaust elbows on a Chrysler. This is where the exhaust mixes with the raw water prior to the mufflers. Over time they corrode if you run in salt water. Also, your exhaust manifolds will do the same thing if you are raw water cooled as well. I think their...

Re: f 26 hardtop weight
Original Documentation for 1971 and 1972 state a weight of 5300 lbs and I think that's bone dry. You should add a factor of safety to that. They get heavier over the years. How far to the water over the road?

Re: 1970 F 25 rudder
Where did you get the washer? HD or Lowes doesn't carry anything for 1" diameter. I was thinking about putting in a piece of starboard between the collar and the wood just as a sacrificial piece but I'd prefer something more permanent. I don't think my rudder post is long enough to get a rudder...

Re: 1970 F 25 rudder
Mine is set up the other way; collar under the tiller arm but it has rubbed a groove into the board. Looks like I will need to address this soon. I think I might be in the market for a new collar and tiller arm. http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab96/vabeach1234/Trojan%20F26/EA5E3118-FC71-41BD-AF7B...

Dog House, you just convinced me it's time to change out my forward bilge pump.

Re: New pics
My batteries are located in the engine compartment on plywood that's spanning between the stiffeners. The starting battery is adjacent to the transmission on the port side. While the house batteries are aft of the port side tank on a wood platform (which is in a different location that what is shown...

Re: 1970 F 25 rudder
I've got a starting battery and two house batteries. The house batteries are hooked up in parallel. So the boat has two total banks. The starting battery is a smaller cranking/starting one and the house batteries are the larger deep cycle diehards. (One of the house batteries isn't holding a charge ...

Re: 1970 F 25 rudder
Jim, The board isn't much wider than the lag screw holes in the stringers where it's attached. When I get down the boat next time, I'll measure it as well as the thickness. The rudder shaft/post extends up through the board and there is a slit cut at the shaft that extends past each side of the shaf...

Re: 1970 F 25 rudder
Your boat sure does look like a 1971-72 F26. What's your hull number? I'll compare it to mine. Mine is 1972 F26. When I bought it, the previous owner thought it was a F25. My Hull number is 231-2061, which is labeled on inside of the fuse panel door in the head. Here's a place to get some ideas rega...

Re: engine rotation
Careful. Some transmissions switch the rotation of the shaft. Best to base it on the actual engine rotation.

Check those Points...
I've been ignoring an occasional miss hear and there for a while. Last week she ran really rough above 3000 rpms so today I finally took a look under the distributor cap. Everything looked fine until I compared the points to the spare set of breaker points I had. Wow! The points that were installed ...

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?
Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. I was really hoping this was going to be an easy install with few mods. Sounds like you've hit every bump in the road. Hang in there and see it through. She'll be a fine vessel when you get everything like you want it.

I don't think it warrants changing everything. I'd just keep an eye on it and flush it out every few months.

Re: Water Flow Path for 1971 F26
Dog House, Mine used to be set up as yours. I have since replaced the engine and made it FWC and the exhaust manifolds are FWC as well. The oil cooler is now cooled directly after the heat exchanger. One think you should periodically check with your setup is for rust flakes/scale from the innards of...

Re: rag top to hardtop conversion
Mel "Molly Too" made a hardtop and used his bimini frame to support it. Looks awesome. I think he even hung curtains from it. But that's on a F32.
