Re: 318 no oil pressure

It was an aftermarket set up that a previous owner put on there to make filter change easier. I might put it back on, with the hoses correct this time. Haven't decided yet. It has an oil cooler for the transmission. That is still there. Thanks for all the input.

Re: 318 no oil pressure

Get this, the lines on my remote oil filter set up were switched. It was fine when I got the boat 2 years ago. And fine at the beginning of last season. I think I was sabotaged. Because the only thing I did with it was change the filter. I never messed with the lines. So, I removed the set up amd pu...

Re: 318 no oil pressure

The standard rotation shaft has a pin. This one seems to be pressed on. I placed it in a voice and attempted to turn the shaft with a wrench. It didnt move. I'm wondering I'd I just need to let it run a skotch longer. I'm gonna try that this afternoon. I'll post how it turns out.

Do you happen to know the pn for the shaft? I cant seem to find one anywhere. Maybe I'm just doing the wrong search.

Re: 318 no oil pressure

I do have that collar. It's in place. I swapped the pump today. Used a cordless drill and spun the pump at a low speed and still got atleast 20 psi. I started the engine and let it run for a about 30 seconds and got no pressure. Maybe I just need to let it run a bit longer. I dont know what else to ...

Re: 318 no oil pressure

Decided to pull the engine tomorrow amd change back to a stock pump. There is nothing else that it could be. I've asked 3 mechanics and they cant come up with anything but that.

Using the same distributor that was on it when I got the boat. It worked fine then.

Re: 318 no oil pressure

So, I ended up having to do a complete rebuild. When I was pulling the engine apart one of the main caps came off in 2 pieces. Instead of spending hundreds in a new set of caps and cost to machine, I was able to find a newer block that had low miles. I refused my cam for the reverse rotation. I stil...

Re: 318 no oil pressure

So something I have not brought up . Why did you feel the need to put the lifters and hollow push rods in to improve oil flow ? was there a issue before ? How bad did it over heat ? coolant or water in the oil ? Is it possible the bearings got wiped out ? How long has it been run with out pressure ...

Re: 318 no oil pressure

Have you got the part number for the lifters handy ? The Melling pumps are the ones, M-72 and the M-72HV which I believe you got, you don't really need a high volume pump for an old engine like you have, a standard will work just fine. But you only lost pressure after the lifter change according to...

Re: 318 no oil pressure

It's not that someone sold me the wrong stuff, I ordered the wrong stuff. I didnt talk to anyone, just searched chrysler 318 and ordered what I thought I needed. There is a gasket on the pump. The surface was cleaned and bolts torqued to spec.

Re: 318 no oil pressure

Is the oil pump different for marine vs automotive? This is a reverse rotation engine. If it is different, can someone point me in the right direction. I put a milling 72hv on it.

prowlersfish wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2019 8:42 pm I'm Chevy guy too . If you still have them put the old push rods back in ( and maybe the lifters ?)
I've been dealing with this issue for over 2 months. I threw them all out shortly after I closed it all back up. I'll order some solid pushrods and get it done this weekend. Hopefully.
