Re: Portable generator questions

I use a Kipor generator to power my boat while on the hook at events. I put in on the swim platform and bungee it the boat in case it decides to vibrate off. That said, I only use it to power the microwave, coffee maker or to charge the batteries. I typically leave the front hatch open so that there...

Re: "Squirreling in" for the winter

Place an electric blanket under the v-berth cushions, not on top of you. This heats up the bed better as it keeps the cold from coming up from underneath from the cold compartments below.

Re: Lightning Strike at Marina

Well the breaker that kept tripping the main is fine. Come to find out, the last outlet in the run was fried. The black wire and ground shorted at that outlet causing the problem. As for my refrigerator, Norcold DE-0051, the 12 volt (10 amp) fuse keeps blowing when I plug in the 12 volt DC wires. Wh...

Re: Lightning Strike at Marina

I guess I'm lucky as my air conditioner is still functioning as well as the motor. The refrigerator light turned on when plugged into a different circuit but not sure if it was working properly. Same with the microwave. I unplugged all items that were on that breaker and it still trips the main. I p...

Lightning Strike at Marina

I received an email from my marina that on Sunday, August 21, lightning struck the boat next to me. I stopped by the boat to check on things and the main shore power breaker was tripped. I switched all the breakers off and turned the main back on and one by one the other breakers. One of the breaker...

Re: Good Day and a small world

Thanks Paul,
It was good to see you back on the water. She sure was running pretty. I'm glad to hear you're up and running again.

As for my boat shining like new. As you get closer, my lack of paining skills become more obvious.

Re: 1971 F26 - Shore Power Questions

Ken, what circuits have solid wire? Originally all three shore power circuits had solid wire. I removed the electric stove top (which was on 1 of the 3 circuits) and used that circuit (20 amp) for the AC I installed. Of course I replaced the wire that served the AC with heavy marine grade wiring. T...

Re: Replacing Trim Tab Cylinders

I changed my boat leveler cylinders over the bennett cylinders. Bennett has a conversion kit for this, brackets included. What's nice is they there are no exposed hoses. The hose connection attaches where the cylinder attaches to the transom. Also I use the bennett trim tab zincs and change them wit...

Glad to hear that you're no longer in pain. Be careful. It's amazing what they can do.

Re: accidents on a boat

Sorry to hear. Hope you have a full recovery. I ruptured a disc and herniated the one above that about 8 years ago. My foot was numb for 2 weeks due to sciatica. It got better after a few rounds of steroids. Then after 4 years of trying to be careful and limiting my range of motion I hurt back again...

Re: Strut bearings 11 meter

I've owned the boat for 10 years now. I replaced it after about 2 years of ownership. I heard the shaft squeaking at low speeds so I made sure I checked it when i got hauled out to repaint the bottom. The rubber was showing a little thin/warn. If you look at new ones, there's ridges and channels in ...

Re: Strut bearings 11 meter

I removed my strut from the boat and supported the shaft with a block of wood. I then took a hacksaw blade and sliced the bearing a little at the ends so that it could be folded/bent inward some. I then used a socket to hammer out the old bearing. Mine did not have a set screw so it required some br...
