Re: Gas Vapor Detection...
In this case, the manufacturer has been out of business for over a decade. A similar manufacturer's test procedure is to use unlit butane gas from a lighter, but I don't know if that will work with Scentry's product. Well, hate to be the bearer here , if that is the case then that equipment is of n...

Re: Gas Vapor Detection...
Follow the instructions from the maker, as the plastic bag is a bad idea. You may damage the sensor with too high a concentration and then need to replace it. I repaired gas testing equipment for years. Actually there may be a test gas which is designed to test the functions properly, with no damage...

Re: Overheating Chrysler 360
I the manifolds are clear all the way through from one end to the other. That does not mean they are not plugged down lower, but that would not stop water from flowing to the risers, elbows, and out the exhaust. I'm going to pull the raw water pump again to inspect if it does not draw antifreeze fr...

Re: WOT
Yes, Yes and Yes. We actually blew out a ton of carbon. Floating all over the place at start up. Marina mechanic was there, he confirmed. Next day could not get engine to fire up. Checked for fuel, checked compression, cleaned up the distributor cap. ok pulled a plug YUK dry black fuzzy. Others wet...

Re: WOT
Old engines do not like high loads and rpm as there are only so many cycles in a set of connecting rods. Regardless of rebuild , unless they put new connecting rods in there as part of the rebuild ( I seriously doubt that ), If you are happy to run your boat as you already are, don't push it, IMO , ...

Re: 318 no oil pressure
Josh, before you spend more money on changing the lifters, make sure that is the problem first, it may not be. Take the intake off and check the diameter of the lifter bores and compare to the diameter of the lifters you installed. Post the results of your measurements, this needs to be fairly exact...

Re: 318 no oil pressure
It's not that someone sold me the wrong stuff, I ordered the wrong stuff. I didnt talk to anyone, just searched chrysler 318 and ordered what I thought I needed. There is a gasket on the pump. The surface was cleaned and bolts torqued to spec. Have you got the part number for the lifters handy ? Th...

Re: 318 no oil pressure
The pump spun freely before I installed it. The new lifters were the same size as the old ones. So another issue to cross off the list that may help, did you measure the lifter diameter with a micrometer or caliper and compare to the old ones before installing. Like I said before some blocks had an...

Re: 318 no oil pressure
That is it. The oil comes up thru the head to the rocker shaft which is hollow and then goes to each rocker, spring and pushrod from there. Those shafts have to be installed in the right orientation or the oil will be blocked, but that would just make the pressure higher below. Who sold you the part...

Re: 318 no oil pressure
The shaft looked fine when I put the new pump in and the pump spun freely. An oil pump pumping oil will not spin freely, very hard to turn, you can get a drill to smoke turning the oil pump with a remote shaft. Some of the pump drive shafts were different lengths so check with your old pump and see...

Re: 318 no oil pressure
If the new oil filter doesn't fix it , have a look at the pump drive, thats the distributor gear and drive, make sure you got the right one and its mated properly.
Before the work was done was there also no pressure ?

Re: Wide Open Throttle
When you put the new carbs, did you make sure the cable was meeting the carb throttle arm at a good angle. I found when I did the same as you there was some altering of the bracket on the manifold required to get the right travel. It was quite a while ago and don't remember the details, only remember...

Re: overheating 440.
Sometimes when you have older hoses that have been on and off the pump many times, they will get damaged/ small splits etc where the clamps go. Have a close look and if there is room , maybe cut some off to get a newish end to clamp. It really does sound like its pulling air. I have had that and ther...

Re: Interesting Trojan Story
I realize this is a late comment on this thread but I thought I needed to post anyway. I am looking at purchasing an F32 as I have always loved this boats lines and the way she handles. I would like to know from someone who owns one and has experienced a rough day on lake Ontario, what is a safe wa...
