Most Marinas near me (Inland lakes, Northern Illinois) allow owners to do light to medium maintenance without issue as long as the owner respects the surroundings and has a good relationship with the operator. Outside contractors need to check in, show required paperwork and be approved. In some cas...

Are you winterizing while in the water? leaving it in the water for the winter? Last week when I brought mine over for haul out I closed the sea strainers for each engine, disconnected the intake hose from the strainer, filled a 5 gallon bucket with non toxic antifreeze, placed the intake hose into ...

You could always disconnect them at the throttles and transmissions and see if they free up. (If they remain stiff my guess is that it would point toward the cables binding) If not try the lube trick and plan on replacing them in the near future. Like a previous post said. It's not that big of a job...

For a frame of reference, I bought a 1990 10 Meter mid cabin last spring. survey showed no moisture other than a small amount near a stanchion on the forward deck. The travel lift showed the boat to be just over 18,000 with 1/2 tank (120 gallons) with gas 454 big blocks. So what are we to believe? T...

Fill the TANKS? Who can afford that anymore... Seriously though. 20 kts at 3,000 rpm sounds pretty fast. I am down in the 17kt range at that rpm and burning close to 34 gph combined but I run a lot of tab to keep the bow down and don't go very far on inland lakes so it's all about the slow cruise fo...

For those who asked about painting the vinyl. It works great on stationary vinyl with the proper prep work. I scrubbed with sop and water and a scotch brite pad to remove any oils etc... Then I wiped it down with acetone and used Rust Oleum brand vinyl and fabric paint. IT came out great and has a n...

an added note about the rear corner's of the side bolsters. I tried to apply heat to stretch the vinyl to eliminate wrinkles but that didn't work out so well so I came up with the idea of adding the tan accent and made it kinda like a tuxedo sash to cover my sins (read lack of professional experienc...

Side bolster recovering and rear seat ideas
In a recent post someone I offered to post pictures of the work I had done to recover my side bolsters and make some new rear seats. I am not a fisherman so lounge seating for a large group was my priority along with getting rid of the tired old side bolsters. The work you see was all done by me and...

+1 on Doug's comments. When the boat is sitting in the slip the water has a chance to settle to the bottom of the tank and come to rest well below the level of the fuel pick up tube. As you run the boat things get mixed together and would lead to the symptoms you describe if indeed you have water in...

Beautiful Trojan and pictures. I am glad the weather cooperated. Those that don't know the great lakes and what north east winds can do to the west side of the pond or don't respect them can find themselves in a world of trouble but you seem to have managed quite well. I cant think of a better vesse...
