That is a beautiful original. Wish I could help you on the background info. All I have on my SkiBee is a piece of paper that gives a hull number, which I've never found on the boat, and a model year of 1961. If you can track down the last registration from the previous owner, you would probably have...

prowler,

Interesting you mention that. I've heard that using spices on plants keeps them away for a while, but they do develop a taste for the stuff!

prowlersfish,

Thanks for the tip. Mixing wouldn't have occurred to me, but sprinkling with Chili powder has kept them away temporarily. I need to add a couple of coats of varnish, and I notice that Chili powder, which contains cayenne, is a nice mahogany color! I plan to give it a try.

Thanks again.

Squirrels like mahogany

Imagine my disgust in finding that a squirrel had been chewing on the transom end of my gunwale-- a piece of solid mahogany with a nice big gash in it now. Anyone have ideas on how to foil these varmints, or will I have to sprinkle chili powder all over the gunwales ever time I park it like I just d...

Trim Tabs?

As I get closer and closer (ever closer) to putting my '61 SkiBee inboard on the water, I am pondering whether to re-attach the "Trim Tabs" that were attached to the bottom of the transom when I got the boat. They are just small aluminum plates with a flexible "fin" on the bottom...

Rashy,

I did not know that Trojan made small boats as late as '79. Is it inboard or outboard? Sure would like to see a pic.

Lewis,

I e-mailed you the photos of the prop and rudder. Hope you got 'em.

Hey Lewis, I just remembered I owe you a pic of the prop/rudder assembly. Sorry it slipped my mind. I hope you received the other photos I had scanned that show the engine in its mounts and the trans or drive unit. I should go over the whole boat and just really get some detailed pics. I'm trying to...

Hey NY! You got another boat going yet? The energy you put into restos, you probably have a fleet.

Bill, Did you ever find those pieces? I think most of my chrome was off-the-shelf except the stainless around the gunnels and bow. I actually got some NOS parts from the old Trojan warehouse to replace my missing pieces. Hard to find 1/2" stainless flat on one side and curved on the other. Did ...

Lewis,

I'll go out and take a pick of mine this afternoon. No digital camera, though, so I'll have to scan and e-mail it. It's the first shot on a roll of 24, so I'll need to take a lot of pics of the cats and stuff or it won't get developed til winter or later. :)

John, Some aftermarket gauges behave funny like that. They seem to "rest" wherever they feel like when they're not getting a signal. When you turn the key on, it drops down to a correct reading (about "0" when cold). If you're starting the engine dry or just circulating a small a...

I hope you're just so busy cruising that you haven't had time to post pics. Let us know if you can get some spare time to report.

Not to worry. That looks very familiar! What you're looking at is the cradle between the two main stringers (solid white oak) and the hi-tech "engine mounts"-- which screw directly into that stringer. Mine are "cushioned" by a completely flattened little piece of rubber that goes...

Rats, I really wanted to post pics of that engine. It was so clean. I re-painted it to match the original aqua bluegreen, which turned out to be just what I had in an old GM hi-temp engine paint can. It brushed on and evened out just like spray. But I guess you have to find a public server to place ...
