Lewis, The cosmetics will come around quickly if the wood is good. It looks like the water line is established. The bear is getting the hull underneath painted. You may have to remove and re-bed the keel and those two little stabilizer strips (don't know exactly what they are called). The reason for...

Lewis, That boat of yours looks awfully familiar! The 1961 seems to be almost identical, and no I have yet to find any hull ID. Etching or stamping them in wood, which appears to be the method used, could make them disappear quick through abrasion or a few layers of paint--or a piece of replacement ...

Rich, That's the way I found this site. Just did a search on "Trojan Boats." That Marlin 17, according to some old (1959) literature copies, came in two lengths, the 15 and the 17. Only the 17 had optional inboard power, and was available with outboard as well. It is in Trojan's "Fish...

Sounds like an ideal sale. Good luck on the skiffs. My SkiBee is winterized and sitting in the back yard. Pretty much ready to go for next year except some cleanup. It started fine and I ran the carbs and fuel lines dry. Probably a good thing I didn't try to tow it. The pickup is acting bad, killing...

Hey Homer, Thanks for your message. (If you want to keep up on a thread without having to keep checking, you can just mark the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box below your post when you write one, and they e-mail you when someone writes.) Good luck on that sale. I figure I'll park min...

Homer, If you're going to advertise it to the general public, I'd call it "Restored." It's very nice. My '61 SkiBee is rougher, but it's the inboard cruiser so maybe a little more desireable. I've had the number $2000 in my head for years, but every spring I think I'll get it out more this...

I was notified of NY Raider's trophy post, and as long as I'm on the forum, here is an update of the maintenance/refurbishing of the old Das Boot: Things have been progressing at a leisurely pace what with hot weather and my determination that people who want to ride on the boat this summer can shar...

Wow, congratulations. "Trojan beats Chris Craft in competition." I like that! I have an old article somewhere about the Trojan wood runabouts competing successfully in east coast performance competitions. I'll try to dig it out and scan it for you.

Good going!

Paul. Thanks for your prompt reply--it must be boating season! The Poly Tanks are a lot cheaper, and I'm leaning that way. I had a line on one a while back called a "saddle tank" evidently for placement along the sides of a larger boat with below-decks engine. It was wider at the top and n...

The "Devil" and me

I have to get into the bow and put some sealant in the "devil" at the bottom of the boat above the keel. This will require removing two bulkheads and squeezing in under the deck, so I want to do it right the first time. My idea is to use a heavy dose of 3M adhesive caulk after thoroughly p...

OK, I'm dreaming again about a gas tank replacement, specifically the big rear tank that sits upright by the transom in my inboard SkiBee. Any inboard owners have ideas on this? Anyone else having problems with a lot of contamination in the tank? I'd clean the old tank out, but it just seems to make...

Thermostats can be a pain, but an engine running too cold is not good for efficiency, and it can reduce engine life too. This is especially true for "open" coolling systems like most boats have. All they get is cold water straight from the lake, and the engine runs stone cold, never gettin...

Thanks for the info! I think there may be a built-in bypass for wather to the exhaust manifolds. There is only one "pickup" hose going to the lake water. It's a bit of a complicated system. I agree, the engine up to real operating temperature using only lake water, and it may never even ge...

Thermostat question

I also posted this question on the Runabout Owners Group Forum, but anyone running a vintage inboard would perhaps have the answer: I've been running my Ford V8 (292 ci "Y" block) inboard "Interceptor" marine conversion in my Trojan SkiBee runabout without a thermostat for years....

Thermostat(s)

I've been running my Ford V8 inboard "Interceptor" marine conversion in my Trojan SkiBee runabout without a thermostat for years. I don't like to have the engine running so cold, but I'm concerned about any possible overheating damaging the water cooled exhaust manifolds. There appear to b...
