Re: Crusaders seem underpowered, 10 meter sedan
.... I took a day to run 3 hours this spring at 3000 rpm with the hatches left at the dock and logged thermal gun readings on everything every 15 minutes. Engines were dead on at 160, even though gauges were 180 plus... Keep in mind that the sending units are reading coolant temperature in the cyli...

Re: Soft Deck (small area) Repair
Thanks Barrie,
The non skid deck is still in really nice shape on this boat and I couldn't see myself cutting into it for such a small area. Working from underneath wasn't that difficult although I don't think I'd want to do a large area this way.

Re: Soft Deck (small area) Repair
I know that it's been a while since I completed this job so I thought I'd post the results before I forgot about it. In order to replace the core, I cut several 2" squares of 1/2" marine plywood as shown in the picture below. http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc449/pauldrouillard/IMG_288...

Re: murky, dirt filled water
Anything finer than a typical strainer would clog up, better to have dirty water cooling your engines that non at all.

Re: '83 Trojan 10m transmission
+1 on this. When my engine is first started and the transmission is cold, the shaft will turn a bit slowly (in neutral). Once the trans warm up it stops.prowlersfish wrote:A slight drag is not that abnormal where the shaft turns a little .

Re: murky, dirt filled water
Svend, If you have a strainers on your water intakes, it will usually only filter out weeds etc but not sand and silt. Cruising at elevated RPMs the sand and silt will likely flow right thru your open cooling systems. At lower RPMs however, it can tend to settle in the bottom of the water jackets in...

Re: What Fuel Stabilizer do you use?
I've been using Sta-Bil Marine concentrate (green) for years and have never had an issue. For winter I add this to a tank of premium fuel and run it thru the engine and generator before haul out. The premium fuel helps offset the octane loss from sitting thru the winter months.
Hope this helps,

Re: BOW adjuster, Bow up and down
You also want to be careful in how far down you set the tabs. If down too far, it can cause the bow to dig in and result in 'bow steer' -- where the boat just wants to fly off to one side or the other without warning. You also want them up a bit higher if you have a following sea, to reduce chanced...

Re: 1977 Chrysler 318 running at slow speeds for hours
I believe that running at low RPM's can have a long term negative effect on a Velvet Drive transmission though. Low RPM equals light loading on the transmission allowing the clutch plates to slip a bit resulting in long term wear. Fishermen who use their main engines for trolling are likely to exper...

Re: Tach Anomaly
Paul, look at the back of the tach and if it has a switch that you can adjust for 4,6 8 cylinder.......sometimes simply moving the switch around resolves this with some tachs( worked with mine)....maybe some kind of corrosion??.... I didn't have the opportunity to try this fix last year since the n...

I'm sure that it would look great and you'd probably be happy with it, that is until the first time you have to operate it from inside the cabin at night during a storm.

Re: 1979 F25 list/Handling problems- HELP
I agree with Captainmaniac on the trim tabs so I wont' reiterate. I can however inform you that these boats are prone to what you referred to as bow steer in a following sea. Waves from behind tend to push the stern of these boats around and you also loose a portion of rudder control due to water fl...
