haven't changed them out per say but i know for sure that as soon as you remove that packing it will start pushing water like no tomorrow... i would personally go on the safe side and haul the boat before attempting something like this but thats just my two cents I have repacked shafts in the water...

I would say it would be much worse. You are pushing over 4 more feet of beam and thousands of pounds more in weight with a larger engine off to one side of the boat. Of course it is going to use more fuel. Now throw in some 4 footers and you are all set. In the single engine 29' that I ran I would ...

With Crusader 350's it wouldn't be any worst to troll that thing all day than it would be to troll a single screw Grady or similar. I troll in the 32 with 305's all the time. Its not that costly. Often I run on a single screw to get down to the correct speed, and likely would do the same in an 11m ...

I ran charters for years and can't even imagine having to pay the fuel bill trolling on an 11 meter all day not to mention the run out and back. It wasn't so bad 15-20 years ago but to pay todays fuel prices it would not be worth it. I did use my 10 Meter to do some dive charters. What a perfect boa...

Years ago I started using an Infrared Temp Gun whenever I repacked a shaft. It is a great tool to have around a boat. I have also found that with this setup that Trojan uses with the hose attached, it keeps the fitting cooler than one without. I still love the GFO packing. I have no drips at all on ...

It sounds like you did everything right.
Unfortunately it sounds like some work ahead of you but it can be done in the water.
Getting the flange off the end of the shaft is not fun but it does come off.
You have v-drives in an 11 Meter?

What type of packing did you use? When you cut it to length, did you use a new razor blade and cut the packing straight or on an angle? I have always found that I have better results cutting both ends on a taper so they fit together. A few years ago I switched to GFO packing and now I would never us...

Big D,
You are right on the money.
That is not a dripless system and it does have packing in it.
It is also an original Trojan system.

I would not jump to any conclusions myself until you do a bit more testing to find out what is wrong. A compression test is very vague at best. Do a cylinder leak down test and find out exactly where the leaked compression is going. You stated oil is coming out of the breather.... that could be as e...

Do a cylinder leak down test and you will know for sure if that is the problem.

It does sound like it may be fuel related.
Also check the little screen and the end of the pickup tube attached to the fuel tank sending unit.
I had one of those drive me nuts for a few weeks on my 10 Meter. It would plug up from the debris at the bottom of the tank.
