BigD Thanks for noticing. The boat was fitted out pretty nicely. I never added any brightwork. Still have the Trojan badge but never figured out where to put it exactly. Added mounts for radio and antenna (obviously no longer needed, but the antenna did look jaunty when I used radio for navigating r...

What I did last summer 2011 version

Oh, HERE they are. Shots of the port gunwale and deck after sanding mightily with orbital sander and 80 grit (worked better than the 120 I had used in past, but care needs to be taken when smoothing out dips and bumps on bare wood as a new sheet of this grit will cut fairly quick. I wish all of it h...

Owzx, Nice to see a vintage motor of a different stripe. Reminds me of the old "Wizard" 2-cylinger 2-cyle 5 1/2 hp we had when I was a kid. Amazingly smooth and quite for trolling and surprisingly powerful for cruising, considering the (obviously very conservative HP rating). I think the m...

Trojan Runabout Ads and Drawings

This is a start to what I hope to be several posts of ads, specs, drawings and articles for Trojan Runabouts which I received some time ago from a former employee of Trojan when they were in PA. Here's my favorite ('cause it's my particular model) http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6200/6027865838_e1802...

Well, some progress, mostly sanding. A comment on that process: I started on the varnished mahogany with 100 grit. The varnish was spotty, with some places almos to the bare wood. It went pretty well on the gunwales, but when I started on the deck planking I noticed that there were enough irregulari...

Just a Bump for muskrat bay and all the folks not yet listing their runabouts. If it wasn't so darn hot, I'd dig out some of my Trojan literature and post scans, but I can't take an 80 degree dewpoint as well as I used to!

Muskrat bay, Great pics, glad to see you got them posted in all their glory. The front decking and gunwales, in fact all the mahogany is almost identical to my '61 Ski Bee. Makes me wonder if mine will look anything close to that by the end of my current refinishing work. I like your color scheme wi...

THANKS Marlin. I'm heading out to the marine stores soon, and the epoxy sealer procedure sounds like just what I need. Also, the putty will certainly go on easier than squeezing caulk from a tube, and I've got lots of practice puttying up old windows with glazing compound!

Your aces in my book! :D

Marlin,

I don't know for sure what happened to your pics, but this fellow should know what you need to do:

Don@TrojanBoats.net

Your boat certainly deserves to be shown in all its pristine glory. I mean it. It's a work of art. And even better, you use it the way it was intended to be used!

Hi Marlin, This info is golden! Thanks for the prompt reply. The weather is getting cooler here, and the next week should give us some good days to do the work. Question: You mention every fourth coat being a good time to sand, and I wonder how many coats total will do the job? Eight? (I agree, foam...

Varnishing Anybody?

Sad to say, it was long ago that I sanded down to bare mahogany and varnished an dI don't remember how I did it. It has held up pretty good with a few touchups coats along the way, so I must've done something right. Question is, what? I used "Man O' War Spar Varnish ( the good old stuff) and it...

Marlin 15, I take it this one's been in the family a long time. Was it purchased and originally fitted with the new mahogany in '67? Don't tell me that was a new Mustang when the pic was taken! What a nice tow vehicle. Also, if it's the same boat on the water behind you in the beach pic, it looks li...

Prowlerfish,

That is a Ford 292 "Y" block with dual side draft Carter carbs. It's an Interceptor marine conversion, complete with water-cooled exhaust, Mallory ignition, Sherwood marine water pump, and reverse rotation, requiring a special camshaft.
