I concur with NYRaider on the steering system. You might want to check your state boating regs, but I've never heard of a problem with using cable steering on an ouboard. With inboards, you have no choice! I also probably spend more time tinkering with the boat than running it, but I don't think you...

The floorboards are original in mine. Without them, you'd be tripping over things, especially the two huge oak stringers that double as the engine supports. The inboards are quite different in the interior bottom design. The floorboards themselves are pretty massive: 3/16" (I think) plywood, co...

You were fortunate with the seams. It sounds like the boat has a good solid bottom structure. Mine had fiberglass matte added to the outside of the bottom at some point. A poor job, as they did not remove the keel or the stabilizer strips. I had to remove all that, sand the entire bottom down to the...

Thanks for the pictures and documentation on what types of materials you used. That's good information for restorers! You have more patience than I do for varnishing, but the 14 coats really show off the beauty of the wood. It looks like you have the molded plywood hull. That marine plywood seems to...

Welcome Homer! Maybe NYRaider can get you some info on posting a nice picture like his (maybe he could help me, too!). I've certainly got a lot of decent pics of my '61 SkiBee (bet you couldn't guess that's what my boat was). And I DO have a "Taylor Made" one-piece plastic windshield. They...

Good for you! I agree the white caulk is striking against the deep color of the mahogany. 12 coats of varnish must have given you a very smooth finish, and should last a long time. I really hope you give it a run this fall. Isn't classic boating wonderful? P.S. I've found that it's quite easy to tou...

Yes, I think it's a good idea to have some varnish in there, just not glassy-smooth. If it has a finish coat of varnish, some light sanding in the seam with something like 200 grit will give the finish a little "tooth" for the caulk to adhere a bit better. I just buttoned up my deck repair...

I caulked mine before varnishing. That was about 15 years ago, and it's held up fine. I used white silicone right out of the tube. Not sure if that's recommended or "period correct" but it sure has held up! (Don't use "bathtub caulk, tho.) Just make sure all the grooves are nice and c...

If it helps any, the only solution I've found so far is to copy my post, go back to the forum, select the topic a second time, paste my post again and re-submit. Sometimes this works, sometimes not. In any case, I always check to be sure I'm signed on and I am recognized at the top of the page where...

Yo thanks for the tip. I have considered the dashboard as a possibility but the badge is really big, so I think it is placed on the outside. Since there's only one, I think it might go on the transom, but not sure where.

I'm using AOL running on a Mac with close to the latest OSX system. Thanks for your interest. I'm hoping to get a reply from the webmaster somehow. Any idea why the e-mail for webmaster isn't working?

P.S. it's an intermittent problem, which is why you got this reply!

Invalid Session???

I've been having an awful lot of trouble responding to posts on either of the Trojanboats forums. It usually takes 2 or 3 tries to get past the "Invalid Session" message when I submit a post. What the heck is an Invalid Session? I've tried to contact the webmaster, but no luck, my e-mail w...

I dunno Dennis. Do you have the Runabout Owner's list? If you like, I can e-mail you a copy and you can ask around. Quite a few outboard runabout owners on there. Mine's an inboard, and I've been looking for years to find where the chromed metal Trojan badge is supposed to mount. I got it with with ...

Wow, what is the consistency of that varnish? I use something called "Man O' War" spar varnish with UV shield. It's not a polyurethane, and it comes out pretty thick. I used about 3 coats from bare wood to finish, and it seems to be pretty smooth. I can't remember if I used a sealer first,...

NY Raider, That number looks something like the hull i.d. on my registration. I have never actually found it on the boat! Mine has two letters followed by 5 numbers: ZF39700 Yours looks like something similar, but it's really hard to make out all of the stampings. The only thing that I can read for ...
