Re: circulation water pump 318

Just a warning about the front pump on the 318. I believe that a couple of the bolts that hold on the pump go into the cooling passage of the block. Make sure you note which ones and use sealant on them.

I believe the far fore and aft studs of the exhaust manifolds are the same.

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?

The only reason I decided not to rebuild the bulletproof 318 was that the parts were at least 1.5 times more than any other engine brand (gas not diesel) its much easier to go to any online boating store to purchase parts for a 350. I also wanted to make the boat go as fast as it could go within th...

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?

Per the specs I have. The beam on both the 1971 and 1972 F26 is 10'-0". See attachments below. 1971: http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab96/vabeach1234/SPECIFICATIONS1971.jpg 1972: http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab96/vabeach1234/1972Trojans.jpg I'm sure she's a beast coming down the road. ...

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?

VAbeach1234 I used a 1974 engine block ( I would recommend just getting a Marine power bobtail two links at the end) rebuilt with crusader parts In the pictures above on page 7 I used a pair of slightly used end rise manifolds, they were not good (cracked) so there are center rise manifolds in it n...

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?

Wolf, Thanks for posting. Glad to hear that it all worked out. I'd love to get a list of the parts and part numbers that you needed for this repower. What year engine block did you use? Doesn't look like it's a Vortec. What exhaust manifolds did you use? I believe the center rise exhaust manifolds w...

Re: 1970 F 25 rudder

Looks good. Thanks. The original rudder shaft had a small thin bearing flange between the wood brace and shaft. The flange diameter was the same diameter of the original collar. The board needed to be tightened enough to squeeze this bearing so it didn't move. Over the years the original bearing fl...

Re: New pics

When you say "on this side" do you mean on the port side/starboard side, i.e. on only one set of manifolds while on the other side of the engine the water still flows? Hoses can delaminate on the inside and they can cause blockage after they heat up. You can't see this from the exterior of...

Re: New pics

I just did an internet search and people have soaked there exhaust manifolds in muratic acid to clean them. But I still think replacing would be better. Life expectancy of these are around 5 years on a raw water cooled engine used in saltwater that isn't flushed after every use. Yours looks like it'...

Re: New pics

I would recommend buying new ones. Manifolds and elbows. I've heard of some people removing them and soaking them in something but not sure what. Worst case scenario, the water leaks from the cooling passage into the exhaust side and water gets in your cylinders, then you pretty much destroy the eng...

Re: Port Engine Power Loss

Check to see if the fuel tank pick up tube screen is clogged? Of course that involves removing it which you mentioned is difficult to get to. Maybe able to run a wire down the tube to push the screen off to allow more flow. Just a thought.

Globe Run-Dry Impellers - My Experience

Well I changed my raw water pump impeller to a Globe Impeller. You are supposed to be able to run the impellers dry for up to 15 minutes with out harm to the impeller. I'm sure the engine wouldn't like that though. Anyways. Took the boat out for a quick spin after setting the timing after switching ...

Re: f26 electrical

My 1972 F26 has 3 breakers. One 15 amp for starboard and one for port. The third (20 amp) was originally for the electric 2-burner cook top in the galley. I have since removed the cook top and used that breaker for the air condition. I have a total of 5 outlets on mine. Oh, the microwave and fridge ...
