Agreed. It looks about 1970 vintage to me as well. Maybe out of a wood decked 30 express.

Re: Has anyone ever heard of a hollow keel cracking from ice

Gotta come up with some kinda solution for everyone here. I had talked about pouring it full of hard urethane, but never looked into what kinds would be best for the application. I was thinking abot something similar to custom bushings, but in the keel. Dry as a bone keel, blocked really well at the...

Re: Has anyone ever heard of a hollow keel cracking from ice

RE CPs comment "I have heard of them getting crushed from blocking the boat on the keel. Thats a no-no." ... maybe I am misunderstanding what he is trying to say.... Primary blocking should always be on the keel, with jack stands at the chines to keep the boat upright. The keel blocking s...

Re: Hey all...

Nice Cobalt Santa has there. ;)

Thanks for the warm wishes Jamie, right back at ya!

Hope everyone who is travelling does so safely. We are in for a huge ice even this weekend. I'm staying home with the dogs. Maybe go for a hike on Moday if it gets cleaned up.

Re: Soft starboard deck on a 87 Tricabin need advice

I left my offer on the table and I'm almost positive he will be texting me back after a little time has past but for now I am moving on to other things and continue to upgrade the Carver. By this spring I will put the Carver up for sale and find something bigger and better. I'm really focusing on T...

Re: Soft starboard deck on a 87 Tricabin need advice

Whatever you decide to do, JW even if you do pay the $17,000 asking price (or close to it), then subsequently spend some time and money re-fitting it to where you want it - it appears that you will have pretty good value. Frigg that.... 12 tops or move on. If you like the boat show the money. If no...

Re: Has anyone ever heard of a hollow keel cracking from ice

IMO, seems to me that when ice freezes it would push in all directions....... It expands in all directions true, but will ultimately go the furthest in the direction of least resistance. You can do a little simulation at home in the freezer if you like. Get a couple plastic soda bottles and fill th...

Re: Has anyone ever heard of a hollow keel cracking from ice

......I would also hope that any freezing would cause issues with the false floor before structural issues but I am just hoping here... .........I should have drilled a hole in the keel a few weeks ago but did not. That being said, I am going to go down there on Sunday and drill a whole in it to le...

Re: Has anyone ever heard of a hollow keel cracking from ice

I have heard of them getting crushed from blocking the boat on the keel. Thats a no-no. As far as ice expansion, I would tend to think that it would pop the thin keel covering up before it would split the keel. Not really sure though. I think I mentioned to you before that I have a garboard drain in...

There is a bunch of Trojans here too, but I don't know if any of them even know this site exists. Off the top of my head I can think of about a dozen other Trojans on this lake. There are probably more than that.

Re: Oil Monitor System

Big D - At one point earlier this autumn, I mentioned on this forum that I had arranged to have the insides of both fuel tanks re-coated but subsequently the fuel gauges had ceased to function. You asked me if I knew if the tanks had been grounded when they were re-installed. Can you (or others her...
