Replacing Alternator

Post by TADTOOMUCH »

I am replacing the old alternator on my F32 with 360 Chryslers. The old alternator had the B+ wire and B- wires and an external voltage regulator.

The new alternator has an internal voltage regulator. Has anyone replaced theirs and what do you do with the wires at the new alternator and do you remove the old voltage regulator and what do you do with the two wires there?

Is it a 1 wire or 3 wire replacement ? If its a 1 wire just hook up the B+ (big wire ) a cut and tape off the rest or remove . Is it higher amp ? make sure the B+ is large enough . Photo of replacement ?

The old alternator is a prestolite ANE 5202YS or Chrysler 3527502 single wire with B+ terminal (Battery+) and B- terminal ( Battery -). The new alternator is a single wire Arco 63 amp
New 63 amp 12 volt marine alternator
Internal regulator with negative ground
Self exciting 1 wire connection
Internally regulated
Saddle mount style mounting foot
Single groove pulley included
Replaces Prestolite ALE5201A, -B, -C, -S; ALE5201S-1, -SS; ALE5203, -A, -S; ALE5209; ALE5220; ALE5220YS; ANE5201, -S; ANE5202, -S, -YS

My main concern is what do I do with the wires on the old external regulator? Do I remove the regulator and leave the wires taped off? Do I join the two wires where the regulator was removed?

You can leave them (Wires) or tape them off . Same with the reg. I won't do anything . My self I would remove as much wiring as I can and tape up the harness remove the regulator just to clean things up .
