The Bertram is only 3" wider but, if the specs on the ads are correct, it weighs 7000 lbs more. Could this be right? I know the Berts are beefy but that is a big differance! Jimbo36

I believe you are right, Jimbo. I looked at a 28' Bertram and was astounded at the weight.

The clean machine F 30 was the fastest F boat Trojan made. With Chrysler 318 her cruise speed was 30 mph and toped out over 35 mph

Bob not to argue but that may have been trojans speccs but in the real world mine with 351 mercs never saw 30 knots ,27 max a friend with one with the 318s was slighty slower , when he changed over to 454 then he got 35 knots at the top . Now this is with the normal gear one would carry not in show room trim (no gear)

seems to me I have read that speed tests done in fresh water vs salt water are differant. Faster results in salt water. Opinions?

Some else posted that speeds where faster in fresh water a few days ago , I belive by something like 3 mph ? I not sure what type water is faster , I will bet its much less then 1 mph . ( maybe tenths ) .

prowlerfish, I think it is salt water due to the buoyancy issue. Boats sit higher in salt water so when underway have less hull in the water. Less hull wetted surface=less drag=faster boat?? Jimbo36

My F30 will do 24 knots at 3300 RPM in the Cheasapeake. I have Twin 228 HP, 305's. I do not run her that fast normally, at 2900 - 3000 RPM she will do 18 knots.

Prowlerfish,
Bob has listed MPH you are talking Knots with the conversion your numbers coincide. I have a 30 sport fisherman and get every bit of what bob is quoting. One of the best hp to weight boats I have ever owned, the boat really surprised me the first time I hit WOT. Also very economical to operate.

Thats The way I read it but I have heard the arguments go both ways on speed but I don't think its a big difference but I do belive salt has the edge
