Are you sure you need It ? . have you had the CG run a "Abstract of Title" for it . Has it ever been documented ?

I know Bob can get you a first bill of sale copy

I just went through this with my 1980 Trojan - all I needed was a notorized Bill of Sale - on the USCG form - and the last registration from the prior owner. Takes about 4 months to hear back from them but I did get my documentation.

The documentation rules are either a builder's certificate - or - a bill of sale, notorized on the Coast Guard form - and - a State issues certificate of registration showing prior ownership.

I just went through this - not having a builder's certificate, but I did produce the bill of sale and prior state issued registration certificate. In fact - I spoke with the documentation office on the phone to be sure this was what was needed and it was.

Just to clarify - my boat was NOT documented before - what I did was for the initial documentation.

I had to do a Abstract of Title on mine , it was documented then changed to state . they need to do a Abstract of Title ( history) a signed title and bill of sail on the CG forum .

But I did document it commercially ( trade ) and they are much stricter on commercial documentation . so that maybe the difference .

Commercial Documentation BTW goes to the top of the list ,
Turn around for me was a few days .

thanks for all the replies...
learned allot about the process..
First, Bob was great, provided needed info for USCG build info...
Coast Guard was also great in helping me with link to their forms page....http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/nvdc/nvdcforms.asp

You can get a waiver from the USCG, but it's $500 and takes 3 months....go the route with Bob.....it's far less expensive and fast....again, Bob was great!
