Seems like a rash of boat fires this year - more than I have seen reported in a good while.

No insurance - that's gotta hurt. Glad they are OK.

Ignorance ...
  • New boaters with new boat who don't know anything about boats.
  • Old boaters with new boat that they haven't become familiar with, don't know the new boat's quirks, or just new boat bugs.
  • Old boaters with new (to them) used boat that has issues they're not familiar with or the prior owner covered up.
Local TowBoatUS captain says 75% of the boats he tows are new boats.

Scott - yes those too -

Doug was asking why so many fires on boats "just bought days ago".

I've seen questionable insurance jobs and many abandoned boats here. Florida is really full of them.

Hows SoCal? I heard some rain came through last week - midwest is missing out, and SoCal gets rain - odd .... we've been getting some thunderstorms/rain every 3-4 days in the afternoons (pretty typical here - like it)..

Hmmm. He can't swim, his dad died from drowning...I think I would have learned to swim if I were going to be boating.

Capt. Ross, understood, was kind of a not so funny joke, as there is always colateral damage with fire.

things are good in socal, warm but tolerable, and we did get a little rain, not enough to matter, but enough to raise the humidity

cheers

How about ethanol fuel eating fuel lines and gaskets in carbs or creating water in fuel tanks causing leaks and so on.

jamie, you would be surprised how many 'boating wives' at parkside do not know how to swim. when i was showing off ENTERPRISE last year to some of my neighbors wives, everyone said, ''gee, i hope i don't fall in climbing the swim ladder because i don't know how to swim''. (i was gobsmacked at that statement) and they INSIST on wearing flip flops (WRONG!!!), wedge open toe shoes, crocks, sandles, and even pumps. i just don't get it. hell, i've even seen some of the guys wearing flip flops on the dock and trying to get on and off their boats.

growing up, mom and my sister left the fashion shoes at home and always wore topsiders to and from the boat and while onboard. it was a non negotiable line item as far as dad was concerned.

David, you've got a great point here. When I bought my boat the PO had to have work done on the Onan (it wouldn't start die to him not using it) the wrench turner he hired put plan auto gas line in it the system I found it....how ? it failed and started to come a part from the inside out.
