Done some of that work myself, but the professional glass guys in my area say if you leave any original glass work in place it will most likely be epoxy and to mix materials is a no-no.

Rich I will have to disagree with you glass guys the chance of the original glass being epoxy is slim . And you can use epoxy to repair polyester ( or vinylester) with no issues . You just should not use polyester to repair anything but Polyester .

The Carver platform was polyester glass and all the new glass is vinylester. poly being the lowest cost and epoxy being the high end I can't see any boat Co. using it to make things with it from a factory line. Vinyl being the norm now. poly is still used alot above the water line. But it is true once you step up you can't step down. That's what I've done stepped over the factory poly and went with Vinyl. Now on my hull I'm fixing blisters found some old repairs done with epoxy THAT FAILED ! Looking in to why some glass guys don't like it because if fast hardener is used it my cook off to fast and not flex with the weaker poly. So I'm removing all of it I find...For me epoxy like 3m 5200 is over rated and over used, They both have a place just not on my boat.

I suspect if the repair failed it has more to do with the how it was done more then what was used . Fast hardener is fine in many cases . Now if it extremely hot out or your using it in a large volume at once , it can set off too hot and a slow hardener is in order . One thing that can cause problems with epoxy is if you fail to clean off the blush between coats .

The key is doing it right , like you did your platform I don't think you will have any problems . As long as you remember its there backing into a slip

Does it have a 'record' mode so you can 're-play' your mistake later with 'full' sound and visual effects? I also heard that systems like that are for people that don't know what they are doing! :P

But all B.S. aside this has been the best off season yet for me. Workin' on the changing things on the Carver has been a blast.
