Max Weight / Body Count on an F32

Post by Away On Busine$$ »

Have a large family, anybody have any idea of what is the safe limit, would be doing a day trip max 5 hours on inland water way. No water more than 1 foot.

Thanks in advance.
Season is short, we make the best of it.

A general guideline is length times beam divided by 15. This calculates out to 27 people... I would never have anywhere that many on an F32. Google 34' Silverton capsize and you can read about putting 27 people aboard a 34' flybridge cruiser. And 10 of them were children at that. Only 3 died. Besides the actual loading and changing the CG of the boat, I cannot imagine trying to move around my F32 with 27 people aboard. I would feel comfortable with 8 to 10 on it. In the end it is up to the skipper to figure out what is a safe capacity and then be responsible for the results.

Mine was used and will be used as a charter boat designated as an "Uninspected Passenger Vessel." A UPV can have a maximum of 6 passengers plus a captain and a mate. It regularly fished 8 people in up to 4 foot waves without issue.

Seriously, I have had 12 on my F32 in perfectly flat seas for a birthday cruise, and that was more than enough. There really isn't room to stand beyond that.

In my opinion: 8-10 max, including max of 5 or 6 on the bridge (3 or 4 is best up top, as you get top heavy and limit visibility) .

As the Silverton (similar to F32) mentioned above found, a yacht, tug or ship may go by and bring large waves when you're not expecting it, so don't always count on flat seas.

Carried 13 people on our boat to Solomon's Island in the Chesapeake Bay years ago but seas were very flat. And, only because the Cruisers Express carrying the others, blew an engine...about a 40 mile trip :-)

I have had 17 total while hosting a wedding aboard. Would not have that many aboard again. Handling was noticeably more sluggish, and response to the seas was totally different (max speed was 1500rpm / 8 knots, 6"-12" chop). If you are going to put a lot on board (over 10), make sure you distribute people around the boat to keep list or bow up / down under control. For our 20 minute run out to the anchorage I had 4 spread around the flybridge, 3-4 in the cockpit, 4 in the salon, a few sitting in the dinette, and a couple more up on the forward deck. Don't allow any more than 4-5 bodies on the flybridge.
