Refurbishing Gel Coat

Post by bjanakos »

My Gel coat is going to need some work this spring. The hull sides are not terrible... Kind of splotchy and plenty of water spots. The topsides are downright dull and chalky.

I went through this in the past with my Slickcraft, it was a "Ray Slickers" Slickcraft so there was plenty of gel to work with. It took some trail and error to find the right combination of products. I have a Milwaukee 5440 and McGuires products seemed to work best. I used the heavy cut rubbing compound on the hull, then a polish/wax. The same process on the top sides except I started with a 1000 grit wet sand.

I am curious if anyone has a formula of products that work well with a late 70's F-32 and any warnings of thin spots are welcome.
