Trojan Trifly Props and Intro

Post by Misty »

Hi I am new to the board and wanted to introduce myself earlier but didnt have the time. Got a 1976 Trojan tri fly with Chrysler 400s (not 440) and wondering what the other triflys know about propping their boats? Original, vs current?

Thanks! I'm just learning the site and will post pics, but the "old" props were not too hot and 19dia by 20p and the spares that MAY go on are 20by 19p. The prop shop here said they will perform the same but we dont knkw how she performed to begin with. Purchased dead in the water but now hauled out and running okay.

And in hoping other Trifly owners can commiserate, here are a list of her pros and challenges

Good
Interior teak all original. Carpet even good.
Engines rebuilt and so far, so so...
Lots of upgrades: New fridge, water heater, etc...

Cons
Odd yellowish tinge to gelcoat
Some thruhulls to replace. MANY more thruhulls than I am used to.
Canvas is toast
Stuffing boxes were leaky (fixed)
A few leaks above

Commenting on the Gel Coat...

My brother lives on the water and has well water and his boat looked good going into storage last year but came out with a yellowish tint to the whole thing.

Take a clean white rag and some muriatic acid and see if the yellow goes away. It could be that previous owner washed it with well water that had a lot of Iron in it and it's actually rust. My brothers boat lost its yellow tint after using the acid. If you are going to try acid get some good heavy duty rubber gloves and have a hose ready all of the time. Be sure to keep acid off of any bright work and bottom paint

I love my boat! It takes all of my money and doesn't bitch.

I was going to direct you to Christians tread on the through hull replacement but I see you found it.
He is doing a very thorough job....maybe a little O.C.D. if you ask me :) Hey Christian!

The prop shop said if you go up on dia and cone down on pitch as I am, these props therefore are the "same" in terms of output
