11Meter fuel tank sensor

Post by dlattan »

We have a 1988 11Meter Express that has a single 350 gallon fuel tank for both 454s and the genset. Recently, the fuel gauge on the helm seems to be going nutty, showing about 1/3 of a tank when it is full. Can anyone tell me where the sensor is located in the tank? I have not been able to locate where to access it to check the connections or see about replacing it if needed.

Thanks!!

It should be right at the top of the tank. If you have a hard time gaining access, I know some have cut a hole in the deck above the tank and created an access point.

Thanks, Todd. Figured it would be a top fitting... any idea if it is fore or aft on the tank, toward starboard or port? There is a removable port cover on the aft deck over the tank, but all you can get to from it are the fuel line connections.

On your particular tank, no. It usually is located in the center. If you can feel around and find the wire, it will be attached to your sensor and float. There should be a 2-3 inch disk with a bunch of screws around the edge. If you need to remove and replace, you will need significant space above the tank to pull in straight out. It will a float attached that floats on the fuel. Trojan did a poor job on their access to fuel tanks. It was a bear to replace mine, and there was no place to create a deck access point.

i had to make a hole and put in an access plate on my 10 meter. Changed the connectors later.
