led interior strip lighting

Post by larryeddington »

Has anyone tried the led strip lighting that comes on rolls and has adhesive backing for indirect lighting. I have fluorescents indirect in my tri cab and I think a strip on each side and color changing would be cool, mainly would draw less power. :)

Yes, I have it in my 10 Meter and it works great. The lighting is so much better and draws a fraction of the current. I highly reccomend it.

Make that two. Installed a 28' strip in the galley above the stove. Lit up both counter tops and the floor. Current draw is .04 amps. I first cut a strip of plexiglass slightly wider than and longer than the strip of LED's. This provided a clean smooth surface for the adhesive. I then screwed the plexi strip to the under side of the shelf above. The Admiral loves it. I got a bushel basket of Brownie Points for that one.

I found a business right here in Dallas that specialized in LED. Wow my imagination just goes wild. I am sure most of you have a similar business in your towns. It boggles the imagination what can be done and not using much power. :D

Can you get a dimmer to work with LED?

I put LED under the galley cabinets and salon window sills. The dimmers work great.

my strip of leds has a remote control that you can dim, change colors in any configuration. Flash running light etc. Mostly will use for just lighting.

I bought the Ebay strip lights & dimmers and installed them as indirect lighting throughout the boat, we rarely use the overhead fixtures any longer as they produce a bright harsh light at night, the indirect lights give plenty of light and is much easier on the eye. Having dimmers helps tremendously in letting you adjust the light output to a pleasing color to you.

I think mine are all warm white, cool white looks more blue,

I like it. Do you have a link to the eBay site?

This is the link to the eBay seller for the LED strip lights, you can choose many options, I went with the single color warm white, also, be sure to purchase the strip to strip connectors as it makes it very simple to cut the strip light strand and make the connections, the LED strip wiring is like a circuit board in that it has a thin copper strips embedded in the flexible coating, soldering the connections is difficult at best, you can do it, but be patient, or, buy the connectors( if you buy the double side connectors, you end up with double the number of strip connectors.

This is the type of dimmers I used,I have a separate dimmer on each strip, as each area I have set a different light level

By the way, there was previous post about the adhesive backing on these LED strip lights, while they say 3M, they don't adhere well, so I used an upholstery stapler and stainless staples which are just a slight bit wider than the LED strip, so I stapled them at every "cut here" mark for the length of the light strip, it hold perfectly and if you are careful, this doesn't damage the light strip in anyway
