What is this

I was cleaning my bilge the other day and found this. Its probably 2 1/2" long. I have a 78 F-32 with twin Chrysler 360 and velvet drives. The boat runs and shifts great so I don't know where it came from. The number on it is FP876.

Thanks Prowler. I have cable steering and there used to be autopilot installed. The piece is just steel not stainless witch made me think it may be from inside the trans.

I google image-searched it, and it was returned as a "cold weapon"....... I guess I need the NSA database to reverse image search this one.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

Wild arse guess.. but possibly a carburetor part or related to shift linkage? Appears where the hole is it has been some wear, and maybe a cable connected to the hook end?

The hook end has more wear on it too. Who knows maybe its not even from the boat it's self. The boat was a dive charter before I got it. I know what its not too. :) Thanks for trying guys.

Or a spring connected to the small end?

My guess throttle return spring hook. Cannot tell size but hole might have went under a manifold bold and spring went to carbie throttle lever. That way if throttle cable came off engine would return to idle rather than something more sinister. My F28 did not have return springs and I installed them as a precaution. Oh yes before anyone says it adjusted the friction so as not to have throttle creep.

Good riddle with that, my first thought was someone was using it to pick packing out of the nut, probably not from the boat at all.Only manufacturers that I found that used FP in their numbers were Federal diesel and Detroit, does look like a governor dog though.

There's no return spring setup on either motor. Well its on the coffee table now so I guess it's a coffee table bracket.

Looks a lot like an internal gearbox part from a marine transmission.
