I am against this idea
new trojan owners would not join, and the old guard would eventually be by themselves.
I for one, if I had to pay at the beginning without sampling, and seeing what this site was all about, would have moved on.
Paying for a membership here opens up a new can of worms.
I believe they would no longer be able to use phpbb, which is a free hosting site, but would have to apply for a .com and pay server costs as well.
It is not as simple as simply charging a membership fee, where would those fees go? Who would profit from them?
I have seen other forums die because of that very move.

Simpler move would to be to get a pop-up blocker and clear your cookies once in a while to alleviate those annoying pop-ups.

Yes Torcan. But this is not only for the entrance for Trojan Forum. It is for a membership in a club or society. And the money should be used for stickers, flags and small items for the members and their boats. We have a club here in my area. Oslofjord Boating Club. We have small stickers, flags for the boats, and off course free coffe whenever we comes around to places who´s accepted our club. All for the cost of around 50 dollars each year. In addition the club have 10% off on the boat insurance, and on some places we have 5% off on fuel. No bad idea!

I don't know how a discussion on Contribution turned into Membership...

If you could eliminate even a portion of the banner ads, that would be a big help.

I just did a Google search on phpbb, as shown above. Is this the place the owners use to make this site?

Here is what it said,,,,,

THE #1 FREE, OPEN SOURCE BULLETIN BOARD SOFTWARE

phpBB is a free flat-forum bulletin board software solution that can be used to stay in touch with a group of people or can power your entire website. With an extensive database of user-created modifications and styles database containing hundreds of style and image packages to customize your board, you can create a very unique forum in minutes.

No other bulletin board software offers a greater complement of features, while maintaining efficiency and ease of use. Best of all, phpBB is completely free. We welcome you to test it for yourself today*. If you have any questions please visit our Community Forum where our staff and members of the community will be happy to assist you with anything from configuring the software to modifying the code for individual needs. If this is the software their using,, where is all the expense, some are talking about, that it cost the owners to let us use the site?

I don't mind ad's, but I don't like one's that promote porno, I don't mind our sponsors making money, it's that simple, All I ask is to be allowed to speak our minds on this site, as long as it is in good taste, whether it is for, or sometimes against this site, or it's owners, without the fear of being kicked off the forum or censored.
And if they feel a post should be deleted, a reason be posted on the site explaining "why". I really don't think that's unreasonable.

An example of what I'm talking about is a post of mine, when I first joined, was deleted, without notice, and the only thing I could think of as to why, was because I was complaining about a price they were charging on one of their products.

Even though that left a bad taste in my mouth, I have moved on, letting it pass.

Larry it takes time to set up the site and if you have to pay someone to do it it adds to the cost . Bob is not a Internet guy so he has pay some one to do it . Thats where Don comes . His payed for his work . would you work for free ?

The basic site maybe free but this is not a basic sit , I am sure the add on's cost added storage costs . the stuff adds up I am sure . and if Bob was to make money off this site so what , I hope he does .

wow I can't get over all this, you know I never played the banners any mind I'd just look at them and if I didn't like or trust it I didn't go to it. In short I feel the guy has to make a buck from this so puttin' up with a few of bad taste is ok with me.

And lets remember does this cost us anything ? No so I'll not look a gift horse in the mouth.
