We are accused in Canada, of not going that extra mile for our fallen soldiers. That we are sometimes complacent in our national pride, or that we are indifferent or uncaring, I disagree, we are just more reserved than some, but the pride, and the pain is still there.

The following video shows what happens everytime a soldier fall overseas protecting us in a foreign war.

The fallen are flown to CFB Trenton, about 100 miles north of Toronto, and are then taken to downtown Toronto in a procession.
Every overpasss along that 100 mile stretch is crowded with people showing their respect.
This part of the 401 and the DVP have been re-named Highway of Heroes
The following video shows excerpts of that trip, whether it be winter, spring, summer or fall, throngs of people come out to show their respect.

following is a report done by the US Media in 2008
mind you, that is now 4 years ago and the 97 mentioned in the report has grown.
Since 2002, 158 members of the Canadian Forces have been killed serving in the Afghanistan mission. Some may say that is a low figure, but mind you, we are 1/10th the population of the USA. But even 1 loss of life is 1 too many.

Thanks for sharing. Every one of these processions are one too many, no matter where. We must continue to respect, support and resolve that their sacrifice will not be in vain.

I posted this in memory of a former Scout of mine who went on to join the military. He served 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan, 2 in Bosnia, 1 in Haiti. And last week, he could take the memories no longer and committed suicide.
There will be no parades for him, no tributes. But the harm the war did to him, what he saw and what he was expected to do weighed heavily.
RIP Erick, may you now find the peace you so desperately searched for.
