Engines Stalling
At my whits end with this problem and could use some help. 1976 Trojan F32 with Mercruiser 233
Rochester Carbs rebuilt, new coils, new alternators, new water pumps, new plugs/wires, all new senders, switches and gauges, all new fuel in both tanks, etc.....
Ran boat in slip for 45 minutes, sounds great, runs smooth, lot's of compliments on how good they sound. Took the boat out and ran about 2 1/2 miles, ran great, no problems. Put the boat in neutral and sat with them running at idle for a couple of minutes then one stalled and a minute later the other stalled
Drifted for about a 1/2 hour and got one engine started and putted back home, engine stalled so I tried the other engine and got that one started and continued on until I reached my slip. Got both engines running as I was pulling into the slip and both stalled as soon as I got my stern between the poles. Thank god as I was able to grab my lines and pull the boat the rest of the way in. Disgusted I just walked away as I have been dealing with this issue for awhile now and am out of ideas.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Engines Stalling
I had this same problem, and a few others, that were solved by everything you've done, PLUS replacing the distributor with a Pertronix (I have Chrysler motors).
http://www.marineengine.com/boat-forum/ ... or+advance
Read the link above, check your timing and total advance (and that it advances correctly). Changing out my prestolite distributor for the pertonix solved a major problem. Then I found serious debris in one aft tank, which had to be addressed.
I don't want to curse it, but everything is working great now.

Re: Engines Stalling
You didn't mention fuel filters / water separators. Did you clean or swap them out too?
Re: Engines Stalling
I should have put that in there to. Mallory electronic distributers installed. Just put on new caps and rotors when I did the plugs and wires.
I did an oil change and a couple of weeks ago and put new filters and gas/water separators in as I do every year.

Re: Engines Stalling
Simple question: Did you check the contents of the old gas filters when you changed them? Hope they didn’t look like this

Re: Engines Stalling
If you have the old distributors, time to consider the Pertronix dist. . I have 360's in our F32 and starboard had issues with stalling. After replacement, NO MORE ISSUES!

Re: Engines Stalling
Might try setting the air/fuel mix a bit richer on each carb.
Motors should run. People -- not so much.
