1988 10 Meter-mid cabin Rudder Bushings

Just finished a small project and wanted to share my idea and results. Like a lot of these older girls, the original upper rudder bushings wear out and the tiller arms start to wear into the fiberglass rudder pockets. I ordered a couple replacement bearings from Bob at the Beacon, but due to the severe wear and the fact that I would have to probably "double-up" the bearings, I decided to come up with a similar repair plan that would give me piece of mind and some longevity. I decided to add a floating washer/bearing in between the tiller arm and the lower bearing flange just for added friction surface.

So, with the help of a local machinist friend and a stick of 6/6 Nylon, I went to work measuring and came up with the pictured before and after:
