Re: main breaker

I was in need of changing out my 30A main circuit breakers for my 1975 F36 as they were getting weak. This forum helped a lot. I didn't want to purchase "old new stock" or used because hydraulic-magnetic breakers do age, even on the shelf.

Using Gerry's (gjrylands) information that he provided above, I cross referenced the newer AM/R series breakers and ordered 2 replacement breakers for the 30A mains. I emailed Heinemann-Canada from the Eaton main page. Mercedes Hermeneglido is still there and answered my email! (She's a Vice President now.)

Here is my research on the subject (Hat tip to gjrylands!):

Original breaker "AM336" from Heinemann Corp. Heinemann breakers "AM" Series discontinued; replaced by AM/S series (soon to be discontinued) PN: AM3S-A3A3A6-LAA02JDAW-30-250AC-2/110AC-P. New series is AM/R; has same form factor as AM and AM/S series. Have to order 30A Main from MFR (made to order): Heinemann-Canada (Eaton Corp.) 514-332-1163 (Montreal, Quebec, CA). Price each $164.50 (USD) as of 9/6/2024. Will ship to US via UPS.

PN for 30A Main (verified by Heinemann Canada):
AM3R-A3A3A6-LC07D-A-30-2/110AC-P

***Has exact form factor, connections, and ratings***

PN Breakdown from AM/R Catalog by section:
*3 pole AM/R series
*gang with 2 series trip breakers and one relay trip breaker
*all handles tied together / black handle with 1/0 on-off marking / 6-32UNC panel mounting / 10-32UNF Terminal Studs / no international approvals (is UL Listed)
*250 VAC 50/60 Hz rating for the first 2 breakers
*30A for first 2 breakers
*Medium time delay curve for first 2 breakers
*110VAC relay trip voltage
*Instantaneous relay trip

Possible AM/R series PNs for Crossover Switch (30 A single breaker):
AM1R-A3-AA07D-A-30-2
or
AM1R-A3-AC07D-A-30-2
or
AM1R-D3-AA07D-A-30-2
or
AM1R-D3-AC07D-A-30-2 *Available on Amazon as of 9/6/2024 for approx. $35 + S&H [Not a Prime item.]

I have the specification sheets for the AM, AM/S, and AM/R series breakers if anyone needs them. (AM series took some sleuthing.)

Update:
They came in about 2 weeks later. Perfect fit. Fairly easy to change out.

I probably could have gotten away with purchasing a standard 3-pole as the ground relays were bypassed on my boat due to the previous owner having installed a modern galvanic isolator. The price was about the same (or more expensive), and all had a 2-3 week lead time, depending on vendor.

So far, I haven't had any weird breaker trips, but the season for A/C is over, and it's too early for compartment heaters.

I'll update if I experience any issues.

Any photos of the old and new breakers and your panel? Those look to be single-pole breakers. My 78 F36 uses a 3 pole FWIW
