problem with port engine

Went to use the boat this weekend got about 2miles into the trip engine dropped its rpms to1500 from 2000 brought the boat back to the dock checked the plugs had a his fire in number 5 replaced all plugs and changed oil since it was black took it out again went to power up and engine is having problems and starts sputtering bring it back again and change fuel filters now have a tapping sound on the left side of the engine not sure where to go from here just bought the boat and have Volvo pentas any suggestions

I didn't know it was English class. But thank you for the suggestions. I will do a compression test.
