On my 318 I installed a Hot-Spark electronic Ignition Kit.

I also have the marine MSD marine ignition.

I originally ordered 2 different pertronix kits but they never fit my distributor. They would have required me to grind off the points stud in the distributor plate which I didn't want to do. The hot-spark kit fit without any modifications. Much more reliable now.

I installed a Sierra electronic ignition conversion kit in my Mallory distributor about 10 years ago and haven't had a single ignition issue since. Sure beats the maintenance of keeping the points tuned properly.

I figured out the problem midway last summer, I had a bad connection in the leads from the pick up in the distributor. It was a weird problem. Went in a few circles to get to the pick up. So the msd questions were less about throwing parts at a problem but seeing the advantage of running a CDI multi spark box, the GM HEI got a little off track but the idea was there to examine the potential. There's nothing wrong with the Mopar box, does exactly what it's designed to do, send a spark to the plug, but when Chrysler introduced electronic ignition, there were rotary phones and party lines. Even though that phone worked as designed, I would pick a smart phone. I'm just curious if a Chrysler LM318 could benefit from an updated ignition. If I had to pick I would rather know what the 8 holes above the galley sink are for,

Hi Paul,
Not sure if I had asked you this before, but are running a 318 or 360?
And do you you know the part number to your Mallory Distributor?

My apologies if this leans towards 'hi-jacking' of a thread....

Hi Paul,

I have a 350cid with the Mallory distributor. I don't have the part number handy but I can get it next time I'm out at the boat if you need it.

Sorry Paul, realized after I sent the post, that you are powered by GM not Chrysler.
