scott and bigD, i too like the 3888. in fact, prior to the tri cabin purchase, i was seriously looking at not one, but two that were for sale in the area. both had the hinos and the vessels were all in all pretty good shape. i love the layout too. what tanked the deal on one was the owners wife all of a sudden changed her mind and wanted to hang onto the boat for a few more seasons. the second one, the owner refused to bargain. his price point was way too high for the market and he kept repeating 'sweat equity factor' and 'overall upgrades'. i can appreciate that, hell, we all can when it comes to our boats. but the bottom line was the price point. i'm happy with my tri cabin though as it was the one i was going for in the long run. but i still like the 3888 and one never knows what the future holds. at least we made it past MAYAN CALENDAR DAY

Always thought that if I were ever to do the Great Loop, I'd do it in a 3888; roomy, good on fuel, the price range is good, and I'd say that bow can handle rough water if the need arises. First upgrade I'd do though is change the oil filter assemblies to the spin-on type and relocate. The Hino OEMs lie on thier side low on the engine, you have to pull a plug and drain the container first before replacing the element, and the starboard side is not that easy to get to.

How about the 4788 with Cummins ?

one of my all time favorites, a friend bought one with cummins this past summer, great boat , pefect layout, and a very nice looking boat however, it is out of my price range and would not fit in my current slip, It will take another 7 to 10 years to get a 50" slip in our club.... so a 38' is the max I go.
