F32 Hollow Keel

Post by Stupidav »

I am planning on accessing the void on top of my keel. From everything that I have come across most people that install a bilge pump in there, do it just ahead of the engine compartment bulkhead. Is that the best location to get any accumulating of water out with a bilge pump?

Normally any water settles as far forward as possible, but if I have any in the keel where does it settle in the keel?
Sorry, I am tired of Facebook, so I am here. Just e-mail me if you want any info that I might have! FYI, I have access to 2 - 1976 F32 Sedans, 1 1974 F32 Sedan, 1 F36 Sedan (with Aft Deck Helm), and 1 1978 F26.

That’s what I did, I see what everyone else had done although no one has said if, right in front of the engine compartment bulkhead is where the any water settles, but several have said, that was the most convenient centrally located location, which is why I am asking.

I don't know about others. But when you talk about hollow keel, what exactly are you referring to. On my 75 F32 while resting in the slip. Water always collects in the bow. If I have 2 inches there, there is nothing at the bulkhead to the engine compartment. People have talked on here about hollow keels before. Always believed they were talking about a false enclosure of the keel at the bow. Which I have. but three holes about 3 inches in diameter have been cut into this at the centre of each of the three stringers between the raised portion under the bed and the one that divides the dinette and the kitchen flooring.

The Hollow keel is just that . The keel of the boat happens to be hollow and glassed over . Some owners have issues with standing water in them some don't .

I do, but it is accessible. I have lowered the forward bilge pump t fit in the most forward hole.

Era capitato anche a me Io ho fatto due fori uno zona motori e zona anterire e resinato un tubo in plastica di diametro 80 mm per poter asciugare. Ho poi separato la zona motori con la parte anteriore ( cucina dinette)

In English

It had happened to me I made two holes one engine area and anterire area and resined a plastic tube of 80 mm diameter in order to be able to dry. I then separated the motor area with the front (kitchen dinette)

I also have this problem with my F-32, it was brought to my attention by the mechanic at my marina last fall when he took my boat out of the water.. I have noticed a dirty water smell for awhile and was using the wet vac to get it completely dry but smell remained.. if someone could post pics of where the drilled, what size drill, what kind of pump they used that would be great

Actually created a new hole up front and lowered a bilge pump there.

Am I correct that the “hollow keel” is under this glass matting?

And yes I know it’s filthy—My apologies!

If so, how deep is the keel/void?

Thanks!
