I bought a set of those nameplates from Beacon for my boat. Just took off the old metal plates this morning & put on the new, plastic ones. The metal on the old ones was pitting bad on the back side. I cleaned/waxed the scuz'd surfaces behind the plates. The new ones look great & should look great for a long time to come.

David,
How different are the new ones? I believe that the background of the helmet is a different colour to the originals, am I correct?
On my Trojan the helmet background is Black. How much difference does the change make visually?

If I could chime in here. I bought nameplates last summer for my F36 and will say, only a very keen eye will notice the differance. Being a purest, when it comes to original equippment, I did feel a bit fake. But. they are much better than the old ones. Joe blow will never know. I had a guy ask me if ny boat was power or sail! Can you believe that!!

actually , I dont mind reproductions, but what I did for now is take my old ones off, and cleaned them off as best as possible , then I bought some black wrinkle finish paint,, I masked off the helmet portion , I believe the background to be silver, and I painted the trojan portion, then when the paint dried I used my 3M die grinder and was able to use an abrasive pad to remove the paint off the lettering,
once everything was done on that side, I masked that off and painted the other side with silver , and of course masked off the helmet, because of the blue headpiece
then repeated the procedure of removing the paint,
dosent look half bad,
just out of curiosity what do the replacements cost?

I'll take a picture of mine & post. They look better than the picture on the beacon link.
Good idea on how to rejuninate the old ones! I have toyed with the idea of giving my metal ones to my daughter Carrie, to refurbish. I could have her clean up the back sides & coat with Rustoleum, since they won't show.
Guys, you won't believe what I just spotted. Looking out from the kitchen window at my church (working getting ready for tomorrow morning's service), there's a lake freighter heading out of Sandusky Bay!!! Temp's 21 degrees, we've got ice all over the place, & this guys going out!!! Here's a pic of him; have a rough white arrow pointing down to him inbetween 2 buildings. Should have gotten a full shot when he was over more to the left, but I was just so dumbfounded.

Here's some before and after shots of my nameplates. I brought them home, cleaned and hand painted them. Not sure if I have the color scheme right, didn't have much to work with.
