Mother Nature sent her warning and not a good result. Six people in a 18' boat???

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Coast Guard officials say two people died and four were rescued after their 18-foot boat capsized Wednesday in cold and choppy waters on the Chesapeake Bay.

Coast Guard spokesman Brian Neilan says a Coast Guard helicopter and boat, along with local rescuers, responded to a distress call near the Lesner Bridge in Virginia Beach shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Neilan says the four survivors showed signs of minor hypothermia after being pulled from the water. They were taken to local hospitals.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

The National Weather Service reported the water temperature was 46 degrees at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It also issued a small-craft advisory, with waves up to five feet high and strong winds.

I'm not sure what people are thinking with these small boats.

While we were on our patrol this past Sunday the same situation came up, an overloaded 18' boat taking on water in Willoughby spit. Hampton Fire and Rescue pulled that lot out. This lot weren't as lucky.

The chop in the York River was already pretty bad, so I can imagine what they were in.

it's almost as bad as seeing the ''newbies'' sit at the dock all day long, chugging beer and cocktails then letting everyone know in the marina that they are taking a ''nice early evening cruise''. like driving a car, alcohol and boats do not mix very well. there is a young couple at our marina who own a 25 footer and every weekend they are there they are so intoxicated they can hardly get on and off the boat. one weekend they partied all day and headed out with almost 15 people onboard. not sure how they made it back, but believe me, we stay far away from them.

Saw the incident on our TV news & the 1st thing I naturally thought about was my brother Trojan owners, but from what I could see of the capsized hull, it wasn't any of you, thank God. From what I've seen on the forum, those of you going out have been on bigger boats.
