Performance Questions

Guys got my F26 rebuilt and running. At 23-2400 rpm she sounds and rides good. GPS says 17-18mph. At WOT, I only get 37-3800rpm (I still got carb/old fuel issues) gps shows 25-26mph. Does that sound close? Got any idea of fuel consumption at cruise? Or is this one of those cases where if you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it?

Agitator,
I'll tell you what my set up is and how it performs and see if it helps you at all for comparison. My boat is "heavy" with options and is a '78 F-26 HT. We run it in Fresh Water. Power is supplied by a 300hp 350cid carburated engine attached to a 1;1 Velvet drive transmission with a Ø1" shaft turning a Ø14"x 9P NiBrAl cupped propellor. WOT results in 4400rpm @ 28-29mph on GPS. Best cruise is 3400-3600 @ 19-21mph.
Hope this helps
Thanks Paul

I should have noted that I'm running a 318 on a paragon Pv31 1:1.
I think my WOT should be 4000-4400. It'll get there with a little carb / fuel work. It really settles in at the 23-2400 mark though and sounds and rides good. There's no strain, smooth wake, and I'm out of the 4 bbl.

That sounds about right. The 318 should turn up to 4000 rpm WOT, I used to run my old 318 around 2600-2900 rpm, same setup as yours and the speeds were similar to what you are getting.

Fuel Consumption

What kind of fuel consumption do you guys get? Someone once said my set up at cruise would burn 7 - 9 gallons per hour.

We have a 318, 225 hp, 4bbl, same drive as yours. Spec are 4000-4200 rpm at WOT. Best I've done is 25-26mph on GPS at WOT. Optimum performance for fuel economy, noise, etc is 3000 rpm - 16-18 mph, depending on conditions, wind, load, etc. Just rebuilt the carb before launch and I'll see what's what this weekend. Check your fuel filters for gunk.

7-9 gph sounds about right for a 3000 rpm cruise for your setup. If you figure in no wake zones it will probably be less.
