On Saturday we joined the exclusive world of Trojan owners.
We are the proud owners of a 1975 F25. She was originally purchased on May 1, 1976, and we are the third owners.
Counting the days to start the maiden cruise, we are bringing her home via the Trent Severn system in July. (http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentse ... dex_E.asp)

Any maiden cruising tips would be much appreciated.

I am going to spend a weekend on the boat to go over the boat and to address any issues that I can see.

Good deal. We just made our maiden voyage on our '79 F36 Tri-Cabin. I am very familiar with your route having boated a lot in that area and you should have a great time.

Our trip was a total of 678 miles and we loved every minute of it. It is a great way to get to know the systems of your boat and how she handles in various conditions. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. We had a raw water pump fail half way through the trip and had to delay the last part for two weeks until all was ready and the weather was fit, but we made it just fine.

The trip was from Lake St. Clair, MI to Michigan City, IN through Lake Huron and lake Michiagn. We encountered all kinds of weather and wave conditions and the trip gave my wife and I both a great sense of confidence in our new Trojan. I hope that you have as great an experience as we did.

I kept a running report almost daily here on the forum and many wrote and told me how much they enjoyed reading our daily exploits. Maybe you could do that too. I know that I would enjoy it.

You mentioned Trent Severn. Where did you buy it? Where are you headed?
We are going on the Trent for a week, next week. We are headed west ( Georgian Bay ) to Bobcaygeon and back.

We are heading East from Bobcaygeon, down to Trenton and then over to Niagara on the Lake via the North shore- we will stop in at some of the Marinas along the way as weather dictates. We are planning to leave on July 13th, but I will be going up to keep familiarizing myself with the boat.

I would love to do the Western half of the TS system in the future.

Any advice on spare parts to take along on this voyage?

Last year we did a 500 mile cruise on the Erie (NYS) Canal system. Suggest you bring the following spares. Extra belts, impreller, plugs, points, ignition parts, hoses, fuel filter elements, fuses, motor oil, transmission fluid, 14 - 16 gauge wire and crimp connectors. We carry this stuff with us and had it in a spare parts box for the trip. We never needed anything, except an ignition switch that we had to replace at a marina outside Syracuse, NY, which delayed the trip over a weekend but that was part of the adventure!

Suggest you spend some time on short cruises to check all systems, especially drive train, engine temp and performance, and electrical systems.

Oh yes, we also brought a spare rebuild kit for our Jabsco head, which we had to use the day before we left on our trip!

Enjoy the boat and enjoy the trip. Take your time and leave plenty of "wiggle room" in your itinerary for the usual "Murphy's Law" factor.

In addition to prior lists -

• Good box of tools (including pair 18-24" aluminum pipe wrneches for the shaft seals)
  Handheld GPS/VHF (Magellan is nice).
  2 VHFs
  2 Depth Finders
  2 GPSs (you can use SeaClear on your PC - its great!)
  Stainless Hose clamps in at least 5 sizes

It is such a great resource- there is not replacement for experience.
