I have black mold coming out of my faucets and I believe I must replace or remove my water tank for cleaning. Does anyone have experience in this adventure.

although this is for an rv it works here also. may give this a try may have to do it more than once but it does work to clean out the lines

Step 1

Drain your drinking water tank.

Prepare a bleach solution to put into your clean water tank. The solution needs to be based on a ratio of 1/4 cup of bleach for every 10 gallons of water your will be using to clean your tank.

Fill your tank halfway up with fresh water. If you have a forty gallon tank you will want to fill it up with twenty gallons of water. You will then want to take 1/2 cup of bleach and funnel it into a gallon jug of water. Cap and shake. Funnel this solution into your clean water tank.

Step 4

Agitate the tank so that the bleach solution is properly spread throughout the tank. If you drive an RV this can easily be done by driving your RV around the block. (in this case take the boat out for a ride)
Let this solution rest in your water tank for four hours.

Step 5

Begin to drain your tank by opening up the hot and cold water faucets. Let them run until the tank is completely drained.

Step 6

Fill the tank up completely with fresh water. Drain through the hot and cold water faucet until empty. This will flush out any excess bleach that may linger in the tank.

Step 7

Mix together 1 lb. of baking soda in a gallon of hot water. Cap and shake. Pour this solution into your tank then top off your tank with fresh water.

Step 8

Drain your tank one more time. Refill it with fresh water to drink.

Step 9

Fill with clean drinking water. Repeat every six months

I have well water at my marina and don't drink it......therefore, I add 1/4 cup of bleach with every fill up of water. This keeps the tank clean and kills the rotten egg odor from the well water. I carry jugs of drinking water for making coffee and bottled water for drinking (in case I run out of beer)...............John

Only thing I will add to the process described by g36 is to make sure your water heater is off during that time.....

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. One more thing, the glass in the salon is mounted with plastic molding in the shape of a 'H'. Does anyone know where to buy it. I am looking for it in black?

Go to the website in the above link at top of page... Beacon Marine sell it though I'm not sure they have black. Also check the size of their's I do believe that it has wider U grooves than the original.... for today's thicker replacement glass.

Thanks, I did not know that the laminated safety glass we buy today is thicker than the original.

That is what I have been led to believe... I have to replace mine this winter so will find out for myself early next year when I go to the auto glass supplier.

That makes two of us
