theres still the human factor, u cant just be a dick about it, its understandable if there is a huge line or what not however its still not a nice thing to do as an owner....

Actually you can be quite the dick about it if you want apparently. At least, that was evidently Barry's experience.
You can watch all the business go away for being a dick too. Also like in Barry's story.
Times are tough for a lot of folks. Just look at the secondary boat market. Folks can't sell thier boats for love or money these days. I would think the savvy people would recognize this and want to do whatever they could to keep the boating customers they have and try to get more, not do the opposite. If there ever was a time to flex the 'rules' a little to keep paying folks coming back and not going somewhere else its now.

I will also add that though some of the more restrictive marinas still allow DIY, there is a movement to restrict boat owners from performing certain tasks like power washing hulls, sanding and painting bottoms, etc. If the task has any environmental impact, more and more marinas are limiting who is allowed to do it. May not be a bad thing for the environment.

i mean if your curtious to your neighbors and dont make a mess then i dont see why people complain...
we had a guy that decided to power wash his boat at the dock... ended up tearing off the top coat of paint from the boat, and where did it all go? in the water of course. thats a no no
