so far Ive found nothing that will work. my last resort to the salon area is install wood. (cabinet and furniture maker for 30yrs i was) I will continue to try other things and will let everyone know what I come up with.

yes, the starter button must be momentary. the problem is: original switch has four spades and (if i remember correctly) 8 total wires coming in and out. I cant find a 4 spaded toggle, pushbutton or rocker switch that has 4 spades for all the wires to hook to. so I am trying to find out can and how ...

oh yes, what was wrong with the transmission;:::::::: the engine was running at to slow of an idle (300rpm) so the trany rattled, clanked or what ever you want to call it. Thanks for the information. My boat with size, motors, being a sportfish and so forth It comes down to the 1.88 to 1. It also helped that a velvet drive mach happened to show up at the marina.LoL. part solved
well I figured out a couple of things. the 71-1017's are rated for up to 310hp. the 72-1018's are rated for up to 475hp. I have 350hp so that puts me in the 72-1018's. now for solving the ratio

I tried the pb blaster. I got 3 to work. now I must share where I found new ones and the price. 12 of the 16 dont work. the boat sat for 2.5 yrs. I found the switches for 55. a piece........ theres got to be somewhere else.... I'm looking for a salvage yard now...
