Re: Need Help with a potential Trojan purchase

To more directly answer your questions... The main cabin supports are heavy, the deck sheathing is thinner teak ply, but non supporting. Water damage will show up where the deck meets the cabin, where the combing meets the deck, and some have had to replace the engine support stringers. These are fa...

Re: Need Help with a potential Trojan purchase

Congrats on your "new" Sea Raider! I have been restoring one like yours, but without the fly bridge. These are wonderful boats for cruising and handling. Just took a young couple out for a weekend and they loved the stable, heavy feel of the hull, and were surprised by its nimble handling....

Table size on '70s F 32's?

Maybe the same dinette table would fit from an F32 to an F30... Could someone give me their dinette table dimensions? I'll check to see if that would be supported by the wooden uprights on my F30. I bought a '73 30' Sea Raider about six weeks ago which did not come with a dinette table. I'd like to ...

How to access back of dash on '73 30' Sea Raider?

I think I may have some corrosion or loose wiring to my gauges, but can't see how to access the back of the dash. There's a narrow closet between the head and the dash back. The top screws just loosen a mounting panel on top.

How do you get to the back of the gauges?

Re: thinking of getting a portable AC unit

In my last 3 boats, I've used a De Longhi 11,000 BtU portable with great success. It uses TWO outside air hoses, an I takand an outlet. It's been faster than the installed units. The main reason I use this unit is the low amp start rotary compressor, which can start as low as 8.5 Amps, if I remember...

Since the sump box is located low, and the exit hose must loop up to the gunwale level before going down to just above water level, all that extra water I the line is what drains back into the sump when the pump turns off. While generally not advisable, some ppl put a back flow preventer valve in th...

My experience is that you can never get all the water out. Frequent cleaning ( if you shower much), coupled with after use "flushing" with clean water keepsitfresh. Winterized by putting marine antifreeze thru drains. When installing the sump, keep in mind the ease of cleaning. Most have c...

I have had boats with three different shower drain configurations: - drain into bilge - drain thru cockpit scuppers -drain into pre-fab sump box which comes with a hair filter cylinder, can drain three different sinks/showers, and is powerd by a cheap Rule bilge pump. The latter is by far the best a...

Thanks for the info so far. It has been stored in fresh water, under cover in Eastern Oklahoma with annual marina maintenance. I have only seen photos so far, but plan to drive the 200 miles down to look at it this weekend if possible. It is stored right on the line where you can leave them in the w...

What to look for in buying 1977 F28?

I am looking at a 1977 F28 with 1,000 hours on original drive system/engines. 'Pretty much everything original. Sounds good, but that means no major work has been done to the drive/engines, etc.. How can I evaluate this boat? What pitfalls should I look for? What major work should I expect to need? ...
