Another "what do I look for"

Hi - New here first post. Been a lurker for a while. May be going to look at my second F-32 soon. This one is an '82 w/ 305's. I know to look for the soft forward deck because of the core issues. What other standard "issues" should I be looking out for. Not new to boating but it would be our first cruiser. I realize these are all projects of some sort, after all it is a boat!

305s or 350s? I was unaware they came with 305s. I would assume mercruiser power if they are 305s.

check the stringers , as with any boat a survey is a good ides if you get serious abut this boat

305 Chevy blocks were definately available. I have them.

In '82 they are likely the Mercruiser 228 version.

I like them ok. Wouldn't be my first choice in a repower though. I will probably switch to a 350 block if I own it long enough, but if that 14m comes along first.......

Question - Where are the fresh and black water tanks located on an F-32 ?

Assuming factory locations, fresh water is under the cockpit sole between the stringers, and black water is under the port side v-berth.

i had a 76 f-32 prior to the tri cabin. my shore water hookup was under the combing area, port side near the 30amp hookup, near the fly bridge ladder. i believe, most, if not all, trojans after 1972 had a shore hookup.

When I was looking for my F32, I was mostly concerned about 3 known problem area with F32s. Soft decks, especially around the anchor chocks, soft stringers and rusting fuel tanks. These are the most frequent problems that are expensive to repair. My boat had good stringers and the fuel tanks had been replaced with aluminum tanks. I did have some rotting core in the bow area and some by the side of the cabin. I had the deck recored and fiberglassed this fall. There were some other problems, but you expect some in a 33 year old boat.

Div Inc, city pressure water was not standard from what I gleaned. One of the things I did before my survey (and I agree with what everyone advises that a fullsome survey must be done) was that I ordered the original documentation from Beacon Marine prior to my survey. It had the original purchase/shipping order as well as the factory serial number checklist of all third party items installed on the boat. It did make aging various components easier. I also checked CG (fed) documentation and was able to track down PO's two and three times removed, and the marinas that serviced the boat to have some idea how she was cared for in the past.

It does take alot of time to do so and various dbase searches, but its worth every second in my opinion - and furthermore, if sometime in the future you decide to sell the boat, the more documentation I think assists you

Moving forward but cautiously. Liked the boat although it needs lots of TLC (dont's they all). Surveyor hired. May end up with another boat project!
