Cummins 450C Diamond Grid Heaters

I have a 1998 Trojan 440 Express with Cummins 450C Diamonds. Curious if any of the other 450C owners with Trojan 440 have ever noticed the activity of their Grid-Heaters (Manifold heaters). We recently replaced the Mag-Switches (Solenoids) which power the grid heaters at the start. My grid heaters only cycle through one time as a pre-heat and then don't cycle as a post heat while running up to temp. Some grid-heaters in other boats will cycle on after the start until the engie hits 90degrees, mine does not. Curious if other Trojan owners experience the same thing or different. I've owned the boat for over 10 years and never really paid attention to it and wanted to see others experience.

Cummins has trouble shot this and they think it's something in the set up, where they only cycle on once and done... We even have the brand-new mag-switches, the grid heaters are ok and still once only.

John , I don't know any one here with Cummins C engines . I have the B Cummins myself . You may find some info on this at Boatdiesel I do believe your heaters should cycle a few times warming up . A lot of folks do away with them .

You've told me the same as everyone else, most disconnect them and live with the smoking until the engine gets to temp... LOL... Do you know if low volts (i.e. battery low on charge) would be enough to cause them to NOT engage at idle when running?

I honestly don't know if it would . I do know they draw a lot of power .
