What would have caused this?

What would have caused this?

I'm a little stumped here, how would water have gotten into the intake runner to freeze and cause this?
The boat has been stored outside for 4 years, has twin 400 Chryslers
From what I can tell the motor was otherwise winterized, drain cock opened and antifreeze in the remaining water.
There is no "extra" oil on the dipstick.
Both motors are coming out for rebuild/replace, but not being a experience boat guy, I would like to figure this out, I do want to avoid this in the future

The boat is very leaky in the back deck area, could water have entered from the top of the air cleaner, filling one runner behind a closed intake valve?

Very possible I have seen water rust out the valley pan below the intake too . also on a tri

Absolutely. Seen it happen before.
She was a 1969 36 ft wooden beauty with big blue 440s that we'll miss forever.

Thanks Prowlersfish and Big D, it is helpfull to know this has been seen before and is possible.
And yes this Tri FLy has been terribly neglected but I found her and I do like to bring things back from the brink!

Once you open her up, rust locations will be pretty telling about what caused it.
She was a 1969 36 ft wooden beauty with big blue 440s that we'll miss forever.
