Starting to work on my custom arch. Below are some screen shots of my design as well as some pics of the many parts I need to machine. I'm going to use stainless tubing for the structure and cover it with sunbrella.
For you "visualites" like myself, here's a video of some of the machining....

Had another good workout this weekend, doing the bottom paint. I think it came out pretty good. Not exactly the color I was expecting but it will work. I still haven't decided on whether to put a boot stripe on. I've included a couple of before pics as well, it was pretty nasty. I also did a quick walk around video. cheers.
b) make her look even bigger - these 10 meters look far larger than they are to start with due to the beam
your project is awesome.
what a great boat you'll have when complete

What a horrible day. I came home early to paint the top sides. I used Awlgrip with the special brushing activator and reducer. After 4 hours of work, it looks like crap. What a pain. It looks like someone (namely ...me) painted it with a brush. I followed all the directions. When I started everything looked fantastic and I said to myself "know I know why people spend the top dollar for this stuff". Then after a while I looked back at my work and I had runs. It's definitely weird stuff in that everything can look perfect and then 1/2 hour later you get a run. I'm going to have to sand and redo all of it. Just what I need. Next time I come up with the idea of fixing up a boat and doing everything myself just shoot me to all the agony that would surely follow.
I have done test panels with both awlgrip and alexseal, thanks to friends that gave me small samples, I have an explaintion to what you saw tonight and why, Im woried to say it in public though. I may be able to help you out, The redo is going to stink! and may happen again. This stuff seems sensative to me. New world as well. redos are not cheap!
Just a idea but alot of guys over here do all the prep, prime, and a couple of base coats and then pay a guy to come in a spray the final coat. If you have everything ready for the guy it's not that much and it will look great.
might keep you blood pressure down too.

Don't lose hope now. You have done an unbelievable job so far and you are past the worst of things.
The work you have done and showed the rest of us on the forum is an inspiration and we all look forward to your next installment of pictures, ideas, and new gadgets so we can update our own Trojan.
Good luck with the Top coat. I am with the rest of those who have responded and think a "Boot Stripe" will enhance the looks of your fine vessel.
Keep up the great work.
Barry
I love my boat! It takes all of my money and doesn't bitch.
So when you sprayed the awlgrip, it worked out well, and when you tried to brush it, you had problems? Can you prep the already brushed area, the go back and spray it?
