good morning all on the trojan site. rough night last evening. just could not sleep. maybe it's because i'm working as the purser on todays flight.... two round trips between dc and nyc... (vacation is over) or that i will be away from the dog for the first time in a month. yeah i know, some people are not as attached to dogs as i am, but hey, he keeps me centered. or maybe it's because EVENT HORIZON leaves for her new slip today, or so i am told. either way, it's going to be a wierd day. i am so touched by all of you regarding this thread. it really means the world to me to have such great friends out there. i'm glad i'm not the only one that feels the way he does about his boat. i was looking on the web yesterday and dont you know, the tri cabin i grew up on, my beloved BUBALA 3, is for sale yet again in oceanside california. i was really hoping that her current owners would have kept her longer than a year. and believe me, if i had known she was being put up for sale, i might have tried to figure out some way to bring her 'back home' again. it would have been nice to have her back in the family. i contacted the broker yesterday and he said that it is a 'package deal' with boat and slip and it must be that way. what a bummer. they have done a great job updating her cabin and teak and she looks amazing. i just cannot believe she is for sale again.... here is a link to the site so you are able to see her. i also asked the broker to contact the seller if i could have the mezuzah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mezuzah) that is mounted on her cabin door frame but he has not returned my emails or phone calls. sounds like an odd request to say the least, but, i fondly remember my family gathering on the boat, in edgewater maryland the spring of 1972 and placing it on her right before she was put into the water for the first time. you have no idea how big a deal that is to me. again, jumbled emotions all over the place today. it's gonna be a long day folks.
okay, here is the link to BUBALA 3......

i wish you could see the tears running down my face right now. i could not have said it any better. may i put that on a plaque and mount it on 'the next boat'? where did you come up with that quote? it's amazing.

I just made it up on the fly.

If it's really that good, I'm sure I could do better with some serious thought.

It's just a summary of how I feel and perhaps my own reasoning and justification for the attachment we have to what is only a hunk of fiberglass and machinery.

When I bought her in 2001, the broker explained that a broker is necessary as his job is to take the emotion out of the sale.

The buyer and seller are looking at the same fiberglass/machinery with totally different mindsets.

The broker's job is to talk sense to them both and bring them together.

He drains the pool of emotion.

Aaron, why not work up something based on what was posted and shere it with us all?

RWS

PS Mazel Tov on your sale and good luck on your replacement.

I think it would be a cool idea to have a significant "something" from Event Horizon that could be attached to the new boat.

you know, when we were growing up, and had our first cabin cruiser, a 31' broadwater, dad would gather us children together and say, ''kids, while you may think bubala 2 is just a boat, it is not. she is a living being that will cradle us wherever we go. understand that like a living creature there will be frustrations along the way, she might 'talk back' by breaking down from time to time, but, the bottom line is she is our haven. our place to get away from the day to day strugles of work and school. it is a place where we, as a family, will do things together. and you will talk to her and she will listen. we will start a tradition that after each and every cruise, or even if we just sit on her at the dock, upon leaving, i want all of you to pat her on the transom, and say thank you. thank you for being good to us, and thank you for bringing us back home safe and sound. no kids, treat her like the lady she is, and she will always bring you home. even talk to the engines, because that is the heart and soul of her.'' i honor that tradition to this very day. phil has even gotten into the habit of it. so yesterday, for the last time, when i looked into the engine room and saw those mercuriser engines and onan genset, i said, ''okay girls, be well and safe travels.'' as i left her for the last time, i gave her a kiss on the cabin side and said, ''thank you. thank you for teaching me what i need to know. take good care and be well good lady. then i broke down and cried like a baby. my neighbor came over and he just held me for a minute. it's nice to see that others understand.

as for personal items, i'm way ahead of you on that one... the 'something' that is. i have the mazel tov card that my mom sent me when i bought the 32, complete with teak frame with her words as only a mom could write. i have the mezuzah that i bought for her and the one my brother and sister in law gave me (there can never be enough mezozot onboard). i have the custom made carver drop leaf hi/low table from her salon (i've only had that since july), maccabees food/water bowls, and his boat buddy--- a stuffed toy---- and the clock that dad bought me, and the portable garmin gps that phil got me for hanukkah that first season. needless to say, there will be somethings from old to new.

I hope this works.

It is at PTL Yacht Sales in Sandusky Ohio.
The owner of the company is a pretty good guy that I have purchased from in the past. He will be straight with you when you ask questions.

Looks like a heck of a deal on a lot of boat if it surveys out well.

I guess the good Lord does look out for all of us. We have always had large Searay express cruisers but this year, July, we decided to look for fly bridge types to enjoy more room. We settled on the 36 Carver and drove to Florida with cash in hand to buy it. Well we were lied to and it was a piece of Poo. While driving back to MD my wife jumped on the net and accidently found a broker selling a 1987 F36 Tri Cabin just a 2 hour drive from where we live. She had just came back on the market the day before due to financing falling through. I looked at her the next day and 3 days after that we paid twice what the Carver was going for. I never knew anything about Trojan until now but will never own a different boat as we are head over heels in love with the Tri-Cabin.
