Motor is at the machine shop ready for tear down. First stage of tear down went well. With the exception of the heat exchanger everything look good. Heat exchanger where the cap goes is slightly deformed and didn't pass the pressure test. This explains why I was loosing some fluid. Taking it to a radiator shop tomorrow to see if they can fix it............John

John,
How's the project coming? Getting warmer out there you gonna be ready?
Were you able to save the crank in that engine or was it all used up?

Stopped by the machine shop yesterday.....they had the heads off but that is as far as they got so far.....block will need a bore, there are signs of H2O. They will mag the heads to check for cracks, said they can be prone to issues, got my fingers crossed, not planning on buying new heads but we'll see. I'm planning on the crank and cam being good. I'm anxious to see the bearings and find out where my oil pressure issue was coming from.
They are very busy, I told them no hurry, just do it right. I hope they don't take that as a green light to put it off. They are just down the street and they will get tired of seeing my every other day.............weather has been great......got my bass boat in my slip, sure looks small in there but gets me on the water............John

Update:...Stopped by the machine shop today to find that my motor is torn down. Also found the cause of my low oil pressure....spun number 3 main bearing!! Wasn't expecting this, he doesn't want to use the block or crank for the rebuild...he has other know good blocks and since he is warrantying the motor I will defer to his judgment. They are getting ready to mag the heads, I hope they are good.....price is already going up but we all know what they say about boats....................break it out or throw it in a hole.....same difference............more to come..........John

Sorry to hear the news John. You may want to get on Craigslist under the Stockton Boats section; there is a guy in Manteca who is always taking apart boats that marinas give him and parting them out. He does get small block Chevy's every now and then; usually he will ask a couple hundred bucks for a complete motor.
You have 350's don't you?

Hi Captain, the machine shop has another good block and I'll get a new crank so we are progressing. On the up side, the vortec heads look good. Waiting for a break in the weather so I can get down and buff her out....good info on the guy in Manteca, I'll keep that in mind.......John

I feel your pain jddens ! But just think, this summer you'll be able to go out with out that big weight on your shoulders and sit back with a cold one. Nobody wants to repower but once you do, you dont have to worry anymore! Good luck and keep us updated.

Yes, I'm going with the machinists block.....the motor will be warranted for a year. I will be very relieved to have the new motor. Had I known I had spun a main bearing I probably wouldn't have be running that motor at all......could of come apart at RPM and created more problems..........I will be buffing her out tomorrow, weather permitting.............John

Great day today. We finally got some good weather, sunny and warm. Talked a good friend into helping buff her out, he works for food and beverage.....pics don't do her justice, she really shined up nice......the bottom should get painted next week....now if i just had a starboard motor...............John
