Maryland boat registration increases

Not only do they miss appropriate the tax dollars I will bet you, as it is in Texas, you pay road use tax on you boat gas, kinda hard to drive a boat down main street.

Not to be picking on our Canadian neighbors the US is put together a bit differently, the sates are at least supposed to be independent in all matter except those set out in our constitution. That is why the big uproar over obama care it is "STATES RIGHTS"

Oh well I should move over to the pontifications section, but then I could be at thiss all night.

Correct on the documented vessel still paying. No discharge zone is a dead issue as the tug boat companies fight this tooth and nail. There are no pump out places for them on the bay. Shows how with enough money things go away. I know Boat US has always put up a good fight, but remember we were also forced to use corn gas knowing the problems in marine engines. Registering boat out of state still has issues ie: homeport and insurance, plus if vessal is seen more than 30 days in Maryland they hit you with a fee. I know that B.S. like this is aging me past my 50 years !

USCG Register it with a Va. address, say a friend

then move then sucker...and some Va. country's rape boats with property taxes...most of them in tidewater don't...but up on the mid-peninsula they're goin' for the cash cow.

Plain BS for sure. Our diesel is not taxed for marine use (road tax) but our gasolene is. Yeah right. Lets do this...sit down like normal rational people and tax our marine gas...BUT...give us real gas, not this E-10 BS. Boy, I am getting revved up. You wanna be a leader...lead for Ch*st sakes. I'm just a commoner and I know THAT! It is not rocket science.

You have personal property tax in VA...right?

I was spoiled in Michigan before moving to Indiana. They pay boat registration every three years in Michigan and it was $156 for 3years. Trailer was one time $300 for life.

I now live in Indiana where it is paid annually and is based on the year, size, and value of the boat. I pay about $125 per year.

It is a personal property tax on boats Hampton and some other citys chose not to tax boats . its up to the city

I buy diesel for my equipment without tax, it is dyed diesel for off road use, I would think one could use that iffin he had a diesel in his boat, lukcy prowlerfish, but then he is not in Texas.

Same in Md for marine use...better not ever get pulled over in Md with "off road use diesel" Baaaddd. Happens alot though, dummies. Get pulled over in your truck, they will check. I don't see a problem with that though. I just want off road gas with no road tax and I don't see why they cannot keep the corn out of it. Pretty reasonable huh?

boat tax prop tax is up to the countries / cities , Say place's like Va. Beach have none, then a place like Deltaville have stick it to the boat tax...

is this increase a done deal or is it still up for debate? i do not see the rational in the massive increase though. not everyone that owns a 36 footer is making a ton of money. i'm barely hanging on as it is with my airline wage structure. what i'd like to see, maybe, is a lower registration fee for older vessels and an Amortization Schedule kick in for said vessels. i've already sent a nasty gram to the MDDNR though, not that it would do much good. certainly someone in annapolis will see the domino effect this could and would have. you all know me as being a fairly even keeled individual, but man, i am so FRAKKIN TORQUED about this i could chew nails and spit tacks. i have a good mind to show up at an assembly meeting and go 'israeli' on them.

and if i read it right, even if i document the vessel, i still have to pay the additional fee? how does THAT make sense?

yes it does sux...but we do get the govt' we vote for....down here it's based on blue book of the boat...
