Thanks Big D and Commish.

The controls I have been finding are not the same as what most of us have in our Trojans. I have 3 units lubicrated and in very good condition and have been trying to find a fourth. The covers on mine are held on by two screws that are on the sides of the cover and the levers are locked in by interior screws pulling a taper shaft into a matching socket. Shaft is made with the lever. It seems to be a very secure design with no set screw to loosen. I may have to use another similar type such as teleflex if cannot find an original. The ones on "flea bay" that are similar have two screws on the top and levers secured with set screws.

The instruction sheet was great regarding only one detent. My odd branded shifter had a detent installed so both top and bottom had detents obviously wrong now thanks to Big D :D

I will take some pictures of my shifter and cover later today.

Larry,

I am in the process of replacing the controls on my F-26 with a set of Twin S controls from Teleflex/Morse. I chose these due to the compact design. The set that I've removed are factory original and in fairly good shape. Their set up for a single screw application so one side has a detente and the other does not. I'll take a picture of them when I get home tonight and post it so that you can see them. If they are what you need, their yours.

Big D, I agree. Their simple, rugged and compact. I've always thought the factory controls were a little too tall for such a small helm and found myself holding them half way up the lever for comfortable operation. The Twin S levers are 3" shorter which translates to less reaching. I decided as a winter project that I would update the helm a little bit and the controls are part of that.

Larry,

Below is a picture of the factory controls that I mentioned earlier. The chrome is a little worn however they they are in good shape and still function well. I have two sets of knobs for them, the first picture shows the original teak knobs and the second picture shows the brass knobs which need polishing.

If you should want these let me know and we'll make arrangements to get them to you.

Those are the exact ones, except mine have round balls that screw on. I might be able to put threads on the ends if I needed, I will get back to you.

Thanks

Hi Larry, I forgot to point out that these handles are held on the shaft with a spline and a screw from the outside. If this works for you, send me a PM and let me know how you would like to arrange shipping.

Thought so but different levers would be easier to find maybe, I PMd you. The look just the same other than the screw on the end, my screws are internal but minor issue.

Trojen boats engines need to be controlled with due care and precautions. It should be tested before use. The
boat engine should be regularly serviced and engines need to be tuned up with new wiring. Regularly oil
change and spark plugs are also important for engine life.

Hi Larry,

Do those controls look like they'll work for you?

Yep Paul, they will work, I am hoping the levers are made of stainless or chromed steel rather than pot metal, if so I can alter them to be just like mine with threaded balls on ends and I think a couple inches shorter. the mechanism is exactly the same. Thanks to you my problem solved.

I think the other member thought the thread was about engine electrical controls etc.

Thanks again Paul and UPS did not deep six them as hazardoud cargo as the post office did to the one prowlerfish tried to send.
